Volvo Cars, the company famed for its safety initiatives and innovations, recommends that small children should travel in rearward facing child restraints for as long as possible - at least until they are three to four years old. Older children, on the other hand, are advised to use a booster cushion until they are 140 centimeters tall and at least ten years old.
The Swedish automaker’s recommendation is based on real life accidents blended with advanced research at Volvo Cars' state-of-the-art crash laboratory. Volvo is absorbed in finding new ways to reduce road injuries - this is why it is focusing on safety development. For four decades now, the automaker is studying child safety as part of its philosophy.
Volvo started researching child safety in the early 1960's. This was a time when space journeys were hot news. On the black and white TV screen you could see the astronauts lying on their backs to even out the forces during take-off and landing. Using the entire back to spread the forces was incorporated in the first child restraint prototype, which was tested in 1964. Since then, Volvo Cars has been setting the standard in child safety.
Volvo’s founders Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf Larson said, "Cars are driven by people. The guiding principle behind everything we make at Volvo therefore, is - and must remain - safety." And the philosophy still stands up to the present time. Since its inception, the automaker has launched numerous safety milestones like Volvo park lights, three-safety belt, airbags, seatbelt with pretensioners, rearward facing child restraint, and other remarkable equipment.
“Our first rearward facing child restraint was launched back in 1972,” said Lotta Jakobsson, the Child Safety Specialist at Volvo Cars Safety Centre. Volvo has also been a driving force in international cooperations such as the making of the ISOFIX standard. The latter is a standardized anchoring system that makes it easier to fit a child restraint correctly in any car equipped with the system.
In 1970, the Volvo Traffic Accident Research Team was established to study car crashes in Sweden linked to newer Volvo models. Since then, the team has studied about 2,500 traffic accidents down to the smallest detail. Based on the accident research, the team develops new safety technologies. Information from more than 36,000 accidents is stored in a statistical database. The Side-Impact Protection System (SIPS) and the Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS) are direct results of this accident research.
“Our engineers identify interesting areas, develop solutions and incorporate them in the oncoming Volvo model,” said Jakobsson. “When that model is out on the streets, the research of real life car crashes continues to help decide which areas to focus on in next generation. It is a continuous process.”
Volvo’s studies and statistical database that include more than 4,500 children revealed that a child in a rearward facing child seat is approximately 90 percent less likely to be injured in an accident compared to an unrestrained child. The studies also found that using a booster cushion, the child runs an approximately 75 percent lower risk of being injured compared to being unrestrained.
“All children must always be restrained properly. They should travel facing the rear until at least the age of three-four and use restraints for older children up to 10-12 years of age,” said Jakobsson. Using a booster cushion, integrated or accessory, with the lap belt pulled tight prevents the body from riding underneath the safety belt and forward in a collision, she added.

Smart Family Finances: How To Get Your Money's Worth From Owning
By Joe Guntherson
With a spouse, three kids, and a dog, you've got a big family.
And big families usually mean big budgets, so you're all about
making wise financial choices. Can you do that without
sacrificing style, comfort, and reliability in a vehicle. Yeah,
you can.
Despite the negative press SUVs seem to be getting lately due
to their inferior gas mileage compared other family-designed
vehicles like mini-vans and wagons, there are some features
that actually make SUVs better buys for the long-term, so don't
discount them yet. Choosing the right SUV can actually save you
thousands of dollars over the course of six and a half years…
if you do your homework and choose well. Here are three
essential features to look for in an SUV if you want a bigger
bang for your buck over a wagon or mini-van.
Gas mileage isn't as important as you think. Don't get this
wrong, filling up less and saving a few bucks each month does
add up. But not as much as you probably think. For example, the
average SUV gets 22 mpg on the highway while the typical wagon,
for example, the Subaru Outback 2.5 XT Limited gets 26. That's
a four mile savings per gallon. If you drive on average 10,000
miles each year, you're burning through only 70 more gallons of
gas in an SUV than you are in a wagon. Sounds like a lot, but in
reality, at the average gas price of $3.00 per gallon, you're
only saving $210 each year.
If gas mileage is silver, warranties are gold. We're not
suggesting you don't try to save money in fuel-efficiency, but
it's all for naught if you wind up spending all that savings on
major repairs down the line. Finding an SUV with better
warranties—particularly the powertrain warranty which covers
typically the most costly repairs—can save big dollars down the
line. For this, we like the Isuzu Ascender.
With a 7-year/75,000 mile powertrain warranty, you're covered
for twice as long as you would be if you bought the Dodge
Durango, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, or the GMC Envoy. The
Ascender's impressive warranty also puts to shame that of most
mini-vans including Dodge Caravan, the Ford Freestar, and the
Honda Odyssey.
When it comes to safety, look at the data. If you've heard that
SUVs they are more likely to roll over in an accident than say,
a minivan, due to their high center of gravity combined with a
short wheelbase, that's true. But while marketing departments
saddled with the task of promoting mini-vans and wagons would
like you to think SUVs are unsafe, they're not. And when one
major accident can thousands in medical bills and lost work
time, safety is an important financial factor when choosing a
vehicle as well. Look at the data. According to statistics
collected in 2005 by Insurance Institute for Highway Safety
(IIHS), very large sport utility vehicles have the lowest death
rates—about 24 occupants killed for every million registered
vehicles.
Midsize SUVs average 57 deaths, while fatalities associated
with midsize cars top out at a whopping 70 deaths per million
vehicles—more than three times that of large SUVs. The
advantage large SUVs have over other cars is their size and
their weight. When it comes down to it, would you rather be in
an SUV hit by a mid-size car, or be in a car hit by an SUV?
A vehicle is one of the most important purchases you can make.
A large chunk of your money will inevitably be dedicated to it,
so research your options and make the best decision you can
based on facts, not marketing. And when it comes to SUVs, don't
be so quick to rule them out. There's a reason their popularity
surged so quickly.
People like them.

Consumer Reports' Choice of Upscale Sedans
By Evander Klum
The ConsumerReports.org has once again embarked in a testing spree this time with the objective of helping consumers in choosing the best upscale sedans available.
Toyota’s luxurious Lexus ES350 and the sporty Infiniti G35 -- though very different from each other have both found their way to the top the Consumer Reports’ upscale sedans ratings. The sedans that were included in the $30,000 to $40,000 range possess diverse blends of luxury and sporty appeal. More stylish models tend to be quieter, spacious, and provide a smoother handling and driving capability. On the other hand sporty models tend to have minimal interior space, ride firmly, and handle more with ease.
Consumer report has made the BMW 3 Series and the G35 as its example for sedans that focused on sporty driving but provides minimal interior space. On the other hand the Lexus ES350 emphasizes not only quietness but also comfort. There are also other sedans like the Acura TL with its top-of-the-line Acura exhaust system that offer a good balance of performance, comfort, driving and handling ability.
The high-end V6 versions of the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and Volkswagen Passat although not included in the upscale segment are likewise commended for their performance and amenities as well as for their low cost.
According to Consumer Reports the good buys for this category include the Acura TL, Audi A4, Lexus IS, and the sporty BMW 3 Series. But for those who want high performance at a lesser cost, the Acura TSX is a great alternative. Another capable sedan is the Cadillac CTS that will soon have a redesign version for 2008. The Mercedes-Benz C-Class despite its being a sporty, agile contender sad to say has proven not quite reliable. It will also have a redesigned version coming in the summer of 2008.
Consumer Reports has chosen the Lincoln MKZ, Lexus ES350, Nissan Maxima, Saab 9-5, Buick Lucerne CXS V8 and of course the rear–and all-wheel-drive versions of the Infiniti G35 for the test it has conducted. All the chosen cars possess features such as heated leather seats, powerful engines, and sunroofs. Likewise, the stability control is a common feature in this class with the exemption of the Lincoln MKZ which does not provide it.
The G35 significantly updated for 2007. The rear-wheel-drive G35 was provided with a sunroof and a power adjustable steering wheel as options. It cost $35,140. The all-wheel-drive G35x that includes a navigation system is priced at $39,400.
For Toyota, its ES which was based on the Camry was also redesigned for 2007 and cost $41,289 and offer optional features that include cooled seats, power adjustable steering column, and navigation system. The Nissan Maxima was also freshened up for 2007 and was given a continuously variable transmission. The Maxima 3.5 SL is equipped with a stability control, memory seats, sunroof, and also a power adjustable steering column. It cost $33,715.
Aside from the change in name the Zephyr now MKZ was given a larger engine for 2007. It was also equipped with a heated and cooled seats, sunroof, and 17-inch wheels. Its price is $32,675 and the least expensive vehicle in the group tested.
The Saab 9-5 2.3T is equipped with an automatic transmission, backup sensors, and xenon headlights resulting to its $38,635 price tag. The Consumer Reports has also tested a top-level Lucerne CXS with a V8 engine which is different from the CXL V6 tested in 2006. The new CXS possess a different type of suspension tuning, stability control, and a set of different tires. Its other options include a remote start, sunroof, park assist, and chrome wheels, heated and cooled seats. It has a base price of $38,935.
And according to Consumer Reports all the group vehicles included in the group has been confirmed reliable basing on their results of their subscribers survey and are therefore recommended to consumers who are searching for quality sedans to purchase.

Is Diesel Performance Dead?
By Nathan Young
In a day where phrases like Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel, Exhaust Gas Recirculation, Urea Injection and most of all Diesel Particulate Filter are being used in an industry that is more accustomed to phrases like "Boost Fooler" and "Mufflerectomy" many people are wondering if this is the end of the Diesel Performance era. Many people are even asking, "Is Diesel Performance Dead?" Now there are a couple of different ways to approach this question and with a topic so close to many people's hearts it’s oftentimes very difficult to know which way is the best to approach the topic.
For many people that have voiced their opinions about the stringent standards that the EPA is putting on Car Manufacturers this is the end of an era much like the end of the muscle car era. There are many people saying that January 2007 was much like January 1972, marking the end of what is being a called the "Diesel Performance Era" just like 1972 is looked on as the official end of the Muscle Car Era. If you take a step back and compare the two "Era's" there are a couple of similarities, those being mainly the race to see which company can make more frame wrenching horsepower and torque after decades of research and development and then also being shut down by the EPA and new emissions laws.
So where do we go from here? Is that the end of diesel? Will the even tighter restrictions that will be enforced in 2010 be so smothering that automakers decide to abandoned diesel lines altogether? Well as of right now, all signs actually point to a bright future in the diesel arena itself. Several automakers are talking about adding diesel engines to their lineup including Honda who has a diesel Accord set to enter the market in 2009 and there are rumors of Toyota adding a diesel option to their Tundra, but guys can only hope right?
If we look again at the parallels between the two eras we can see a bright glimpse of hope for the Diesel Performance Aftermarket in a couple of different ways. Definitely since the end of the muscle car era in 1972 aftermarket performance has changed, well even more so in the past decade with just the upload of a program you can be 100 horsepower above stock in just a matter of minutes, that is definitely a far cry from the performance modifications of old. It's my guess, and take it for what you will but I see the diesels of the last decade or so becoming much like the muscle cars of the 60's and 70's, sort of the last of the fun vehicles, less restriction and more possibilities for big power. Although new diesels will continue to increase more and more in power I think that the new restrictions are going to make it even more difficult to create programmers, chips, intakes etc. that will work without setting off check engine lights and throwing codes etc.
So in the end I say that the future looks bright for Diesel vehicles as a whole, and as for Diesel Performance, if you have a 1994-2006 Diesel either hold onto it or give me a call because the value is going to increase, just watch and see.

Isuzu's i-Series Trucks for 2007
By Gertrude Sayzer
Isuzu is still in the pickup truck business, selling their version of the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon compact pickup. Isuzu's version is a likeable truck, though the model range is limited.
At the first glance, the Isuzu i-series is often perceived, not quite correctly, as a warmed-over General Motors product. While the i-series is more or less identical to the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon, the fact is that Isuzu did have a hand in the truck's development. The deal was that Chevy and GMC would have first shot at selling the truck in North America while Isuzu would sell a slightly different diesel-powered version called the D-MAX in the Asia-Pacific region, which have been very marketable.
Isuzu started selling the i280 and i350 in the US in 2006, though sales were a fraction of those of the Colorado and Canyon. Part of the problem was lack of choice. The i-series came in just two versions: The four-cylinder manual-transmission extended-cab 4x2 i280 and the five-cylinder automatic crew-cab 4x4 i350. Chevy and GMC continued to sell their versions of the truck with a wide variety of cabs, bed, engine, transmission, and driveline combinations.
For this year, things have improved slightly. The four-cylinder Isuzu now offers an automatic transmission, while the five-cylinder model comes in both extended and crew cabs as well as with a 4x2 driveline, though the 4x4 is only available as a crew cab. Both trucks also get larger engines and new names: i290 and i370, reflecting their 2.9 and 3.7 liter engines.
There is no carpet and an AM/FM radio in the driver's seat, though air conditioning and 4-wheel antilock brakes are part of the standard parts. The truck accessories, which contain cloth seats, carpets, rear jump seats, CD/MP3 player, floor mats, and tinted windows are worth $699 all in all. The automatic transmission is at $1,089 and the bottom line is at $19,500. It contains manual door locks and crank-up windows.
The i290's extended cab has rear-opening doors on both sides for easier access to the second row, where there is are two fold-up jump seats with 3-point belts and LATCH child seat anchors. Like most compact pickup back seats, these are best suited for kids. Once seat are pulled up, one will find a handy plastic tool box that also flips forwards to provide flat load floor.
This year, the i-series offers side curtain airbags, a rare truck accessory in pickup trucks. They are optional on LS-model extended-cab Isuzus and standard equipment on the i370 with crew cab.
By far the high point of the i290 is its engine. At 2.9 liters, it is huge for a four-cylinder engine, and it shows in the numbers: 185 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque, the latter peaking at a usefully low 2800 RPM. Those numbers represent an increase of 10 hp and 5 lb-ft over last year's 2.8 liter engine.
It would be easy to mistake the i290's off-the-line performance for that of a six-cylinder truck. The truck loses some of its get-up-and-go at highway speeds, though passing acceleration (50 to 75 MPH) is adequate. The four-banger has enough torque to spin the rear wheels, even under moderate acceleration.
The i290 has a payload capacity of just over 1500 lbs, whose towing capacity is 2,100 with the manual and 3,100 with the automatic, more than enough to haul a small boat, a couple of ATVs, or a utility trailer. Its bed width is 4' 9"; bed length is 5' for the crew cab and 6' for the extended cab. Movable support cables allow the tailgate to be held half-way open and bear weight in this position.
The i290's steering is light, good but not sporty. The ride is remarkably quiet at highway speeds. As mentioned earlier the i290 comes with standard antilock brakes but lacks advanced safety electronics such as electronic stability control, which is just starting to make their way into competitors' products.

Hybrid Car Comparisons For 2007 - Buy A Hybrid Save The Planet?
By Frederick Musser
For the past couple -three years, there has been much buzz going on about Hybrid Cars and the many benefits they seem to offer. It seems that Hybrid Cars may be the solution to both major problems we face in the United States today when it comes to transportation...
What are those two problems facing the United States when it comes to transportation?
1. Surging Oil Prices
2. Concern about the environment
So, how do you know which hybrid car to buy?
Compare your options and the benefits.
Owning a Hybrid car will offer you many, many benefits.
To name a few hybrid benefits:
Tax breaks by many states and Federal GovernmentFuel cost savings - Hybrids use less fuelHybrid Cars are better for the environment producing less emissionsFor these reasons and the never ending surge of gas pump prices, hybrid cars have experienced a sharp increase in sales.
More and more car manufacturers are joining the hybrid vehicle arena with their own versions. Both the old stand by companies that have been around for ever as well as many new "green car" companies are popping up to enter into the Hybrid Car Revolution. This is wonderful for those of you who are planning to buy a hybrid car, you now have so many choices it's almost unbelievable, that’s why you really need to compare hybrid cars to see which one would fit perfectly with your needs.
In this article we will only compare two of the worlds leading hybrid car manufactures, the Japanese giant's Toyota and Honda.
Toyota and Honda are credited with producing many top innovations of hybrid technology and their hybrid cars are the most popular, most awarded hybrid vehicles on the hybrid market today.
Here, in this article we will compare the hybrid cars they are offering for 2007 year, these will include the Honda Accord Hybrid, Honda Civic Hybrid, Lexus GS 450H, Toyota Camry Hybrid and the Toyota Prius.
Their fuel efficiency can be compared through their average consumption per mile in different situations, like; City Driving – where the traffic is constantly stopping, Highway Driving – where the engine can freely operate at maximum level and their combined average usage.
Miles Per Gallon and Average Used Per Gallon
Honda Accord Hybrid – 28 MPG (city), 35 MPG (Highway) and 31 MPG (Combined Average)Honda Civic - 49 MPG (city), 51 MPG (Highway) and 50 MPG (Combined Average)Lexus GS 450H - 25 MPG (city), 28 MPG (Highway) and 26 MPG (Combined Average)Toyota Camry Hybrid - 40 MPG (city), 38 MPG (Highway) and 39 MPG (Combined Average)Toyota Prius - 60 MPG (city), 51 MPG (Highway) and 55 MPG (Combined Average)
Before you just go out and pick the one with the highest MPG average, you need to consider something else.
Fuel type.
All of these vehicles use regular gasoline except for the Lexus which uses Premium Gasoline that is much pricier per gallon.
You also need to compare the size class of each hybrid car as well as the engine size and liters of the engine.
Accord Hybrid is a midsize car with a 3 liter - 6 cylinder engine. Civic Hybrid is a compact car with a 1.3 liter – 4 cylinder engine. Lexus GS 450H is another compact car with a 3.5 liter – 6 cylinder engine.Toyota Camry Hybrid is a midsize sedan equipped with a 2.4 liter – 4 cylinder engineToyota Prius is a compact car with a 1.5 liter – 4 cylinder engine. The bigger the car and the more powerful the engine is, the more fuel will be consumed. Considering all these aspects and doing your homework can lead to a fantastic hybrid vehicle purchase.
You have to put all of the considerations on the table when searching for the best hybrid to buy.
So, before you rush right out an get that shiny new hybrid car, compare first and do your homework. Find the one that will suit your needs and fit your personality best and you will be on your way to helping save the environment as well as saving yourself some money on fuel.

DaimlerChrysler's Stockholders Want Chrysler Out For Good
By Dwayne Thomas
DaimlerChrysler AG’s annual general meetings have always been a stormy event in recent years with stockholders hammering out at the transatlantic car giant’s management over the group’s declining share price plus the failure of its ambitious global expansion to produce positive results.
And now after nine years of spending money into the troubled Chrysler operations, what the company’s shareholders and investors would like to know from DaimlerChrysler’s Chief Dieter Zetsche are his plans for the next stage of rolling back the group’s international empire specifically the disposal of the loss-making US arm---Chrysler AG.
Discarding Chrysler AG would take DaimlerChrysler back to the year 1998 when its former chief Juergen Schrempp introduce his vision to covert the Stuttgart-based company and maker of Mercedes-Benz luxury cars and auto components such as Mercedes steering rack----into a Welt AG or World Inc.
It was also Schrempp that spearheaded the union between Germany’s Daimler and US-based Chrysler which the former chief hailed as a “marriage made in heaven’”. But just like any marriage that doesn’t “work” the union of Daimler and Chrysler has to end. Since staying married to each other would only cause both parties more damage than good.
It should be noted that starting last February the company’s share price has recovered after DaimlerChrysler Chief Zetsche has announced that all options were on the table for its US-based arm. According to Unio Investment funds manager Ingo Speich in an interview with the German business daily Handelsblatt, "Splitting off Chrysler appears to us as appropriate." This statement made by Speich reflects the views of other fund management groups attending Wednesday’s AGM.
Last February Zetsche also unveiled another plan to revamp Chrysler including cutting 13,000 jobs after fierce competition in the US resulted in the American carmaker to obtain an astounding 1.92 million euros (2.6 billion USD) loss last 2006. There are already couples of equity firms and carmakers that are looking at the possibility of taking over Chrysler and one of which is General Motors Corp which have been sizing up Daimler’s loss-making US arm. The news of a possible buyout from GM has helped increase the shares of DaimlerChrysler to more than 30 percent obtaining 1.3 million for the DCX stockholders.
In fairness to DaimlerChrysler it has exert all efforts as well as resources in trying to turnaround Chrysler to the extent that it has unintentionally neglected the company’s flagship Mercedes Benz cars which were suddenly bombarded with complaints about deteriorating quality and mounting losses.
It would have been easier for Mercedes Benz to address such problems if only its arch rival BMW has not emerged as the world’s premium car brand. The disposal of Chrysler would once and for all help ease the pressure on DaimlerChrysler. Chrysler on its part is continuing to struggle to deal with its loss-making Smart minicars which unfortunately form part of the Mercedes Benz Group.
Actually the first time that Daimler pulled an alliance with Chrysler, analysts were forecasting a bleak future which they based on the previously failed partnership between Daimler and Mitsubishi Motors Corp especially when the German automaker refused to help its debt-ridden Japanese auto group.
The tie-up with Mitsubishi formed a key pillar of Schrempp’s vision to build a global empire with operations across Daimler’s home base in Europe expanding to the world’s biggest car market in the US up to Asia’s fast-paced economy.
The countdown for the disposal of the Chrysler AG has increased the stock of DaimlerChrysler’s by 1.4 percent to 62.26 euros in a trading conducted last Monday following media reports that the carmaker has been able to acquire bids totaling to 9.0 billion dollars.
Last month US investment house Morgan Stanley has increase its price estimate for DaimlerChrysler shares by more than 20 percent to 75 euros on the grounds that basis that the group manages to split off Chrysler. According to the report written by Adam Jonas, an analyst from Morgan Stanley to clients, “We are prepared to value it under the assumption that it extricates itself from Chrysler.”
Similarly most analysts also share the same opinion that DaimlerChrysler would not sustained rebound in its share price if it will not dump Chrysler. There are three private equity firms that are lining up to take Chrysler off Daimler’s hands and these are the Cerberus Capital Management LP, Centerbridge Partners LP, and the Blackstone Group.
Cerberus has already asked the help of former Chrysler chief operating officer Wolfgang Bernhard, who after leaving Volkswagen AG in January resurfaced shortly after as an adviser to Cerberus.
Other carmakers such as Renault, Nissan, VW, and Toyota have ruled out bidding for Chrysler.

Electric Vehicles - 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid Review
By George Christodoulou
The 2007 Honda civic Hybrid will run you approximately $22,000 without any of the special add-on features. If you’re going to buy a hybrid with features such as the Satellite-Linked Navigation System™ and fog lights and all of that, you’re looking at a $30,000 vehicle. All prices aside, I will take you into this vehicle and show you what it’s all about.
Honda Civic Hybrid Standard Features
The first standard feature on the list is Multipoint fuel injection. Multipoint fuel injection is a system that injects the fuel into each cylinder as opposed to a carburetor or throttle body injections that injects fuel at one point in the intake system.
Next we have the, Drive-by-Wire Throttle System which improves engine efficiency while reducing vehicle emissions. The way this is done is it replaces the old throttle control system with an electronic system that is more accurate, requires no oil or service, and does not get affected by outside forces such as hot or cold weather.
Following that we have front-wheel drive. This feature obviously means the front, rather than that rear wheels move the car. There are many reasons for this that has to do with control and handling.
Direct Ignition System with Immobilizer is the next feature. Theoretically, the advantage of this system rather than traditional ignition systems is that it doesn’t have parts that can wear out and cause you problems in the future when you try to start your car.
Next on the list we have unit-body construction. This is a system that just tries to lower the weight of the car so it’s fuel efficient.
This vehicle also comes with, MacPherson strut front suspension which is not better than double wishbone suspension but it’s still better than most. Only problem with this is that the wheel actually will bend in which effects the sharpness of the turn. Well, at least you get to save a few bucks here because of this feature.
Lastly, this vehicle comes with a spare tire like many other cars do just to add that extra feature on the list.
Honda Civic Hybrid Specifications
The Honda Civic Hybrid runs on an In-Line 4-Cylinder aluminum-alloy engine. It has a 1339 cc. displacement, 110 @ 6000 horsepower, 123 @ 1000-2500 toque, and 10:8:1 compression ratio. It received an AT-PZEV fuel rating (best) which determines how well it runs on the same amount of fuel compared to other cars.
Honda Civic Hybrid Mileage
This hybrid vehicle gets approximately 49 miles per gallon (51 highway) meaning you will get more for the money. If you want to see how much you can save, head over to the Hybrid Honda Civil official site (http://automobiles.honda.com) and use there savings calculator. The hybrid only requires unleaded gasoline in case you were wondering.
Honda Civic Hybrid Measurements
The following are measurements that depict the volume inside the vehicle. If you’re a big person, you will need to look for these to make sure you’re comfortable. In any case, the only reason why I condone the use of a large car is 1) camping equipment, 2) big people. You have to be comfortable and if your not, you have my blessing to pollute. The head room for a Honda Civic is approximately 39 inches in the front and 37 inches in the back. The leg room is approximately 42 inches in the front and 34 inches in the back. The shoulder room in the front is approximately 54 inches in the front and 52 inches in the back.
Honda Civic Hybrid Awards for 2007
This vehicle has won the 2007 car of the year because it is a useful vehicle, it’s affordable, and practical for all drivers today. It was also chosen because it is a good choice for first time drivers. This is important because the car people drive when there young is the brand they like to stick with later on.
Consumer guide named the Honda Civil Hybrid the best buy for compact cars. Out of 80 or so cars, this vehicle one based on, such as price, features, performance, accommodations, fuel economy, reliability records and resale value.
Finally, the Honda received the CarDomain People’s Choice Award for “Most Mod-Friendly Car.” This award is given to the car voted on by more than 1 million visitors of cardomain.com.
This is the gist of the Honda Civic Hybrid. If you would like more information to purchase one of these vehicles today, please visit the official site for more information.

VW's Touareg BlueTDI - World's Cleanest Diesel Engine
By Benjamin Hudson
Volkswagen’s Touareg has one of the cleanest diesel engines in the world. Its BlueTDI engine with SCR catalytic converter reduces nitrogen dioxide (NOx) emissions by up to 90 percent. Touareg BlueTDI delivers 165kW/225 PS and meets even the strictest “Tier2 Bin5” exhaust emissions standards implemented in the US states particularly in California, Massachusetts, New York, Vermont, and Maine.
In the USA economical turbo-diesels like the V6 BlueTDI more than any present day powertrain technology can help in reducing oil consumption and the generation of climate-impacting greenhouse gases. Volkswagen will offer the Touareg with the SCR catalytic converter starting 2008 first in the US as part of its BlueTec alliance with DaimlerChrysler and Audi. The BlueTec alliance was started by the three carmakers last year.
Volkswagen has also scheduled the launching of a smaller Jetta in America in 2008. It will also be equipped with NOx storage catalytic converter that eliminates up to 90 percent of nitrogen oxides. Both the Touareg BlueTDI and Jetta are scheduled to debut in Europe. The Euro 4 standard currently specifies a NOx limit of 0.25 g/km while the US standard which Volkswagen Touareg BlueTDI satisfies specifies a NOx limit of 0.043 g/km or 0.07 g/mile. Aside from the remarkable NOx catalytic converters that Touareg and Jetta have, they are also equipped with heavy duty VW axles.
It should be noted that the Touareg TDI had successfully towed a Boeing 747 and was made possible by its especially modified VW axle. By towing the 155 ton Boeing 747, Volkswagen Touareg has displayed not only the prowess of its engine but also the durability and power of every component.
The SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) Catalytic Converter
SCR is short for “Selective Catalytic Reduction”. Its main function is to selectively convert the nitrogen oxide or NOx exhaust components to nitrogen and water without producing any undesirable byproducts. Volkswagen’s Touareg BlueTDI which will debut at the Geneva Motor show will also feature an oxidation catalytic converter and a diesel particulate filter.
Water-based urea solution like AdBlue is used in converting the nitrogen oxides. The urea solution is stored in an auxiliary tank on the Touareg BlueTDI. It is in the auxiliary tank wherein the 32.5 percent urea is continuously sprayed into the exhaust stream before the SCR catalytic converter. It is measured based on the mass flow of the exhaust. An engine management system after obtaining information from a Nox sensor located after the SCR catalytic converter makes sure that everything is correctly regulated.
The urea solution is atomized into fine spray by a screen and transformed in the hot exhaust has stream upstream of the catalytic converter. It is in the SCR catalytic converter where the nitrogen oxide is split into nitrogen and water. The water-based additive AdBlue is an odorless, non-toxic and biodegradable solution.
The AdBlue is consumed at an average rate of about 0.1 liter per 100 kilometers. The tank and consumption are measured so that the AdBlue supply can last up to the next scheduled service.

Altima Hybrid: Nissan's Blend Of Style, Performance And Fuel Economy
By Ryan Thomas
Nissan Motors, a budding Japanese automaker, offers the auto industry a distinct hybrid that blends the automaker’s style, performance and fuel economy. The hybrid reflects Nissan manufacturing tradition while adding updated auto features to set it apart from the traditional hybrid on the road.
The all-new Altima hybrid, Nissan’s first entry in the hybrid electric vehicle market, flaunts distinctive styling, a sport-oriented suspension, powerful 4-cylinder engine and spacious interior. But the automaker did not stop its endeavor to improve the hybrid. "The Altima Hybrid offers all the style, convenience, comfort, quality feel and performance technology features and highlights of the next-generation 2007 Altima sedan, while offering the added benefits of improved fuel economy and reduced emissions," said Bill Bosley, the vice president and general manager, Nissan Division.
Nissan completes the hybrid’s features by adding excellent fuel economy through a hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain. The powertrain is mated to the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine and Xtronic™ CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) that allows the hybrid to increase fuel economy while maintaining low tailpipe emissions. The hybrid’s EPA fuel economy is estimated at 42 mpg City and 36 mpg Highway. It is rated as an Advanced Technology-Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (AT-PZEV) and emits almost no harmful emissions.
Bosley added, "Combined with Altima’s standard 20-gallon fuel tank, Altima Hybrid has a projected driving range of up to 700 miles between fill-ups. More importantly, it drives just like any other Nissan – with smooth acceleration, responsive handling and a seamless delivery of power under almost all driving conditions."
The Nissan Altima Hybrid features sophisticated standard equipment that includes 16-inch alloy wheels, power windows/door locks, an Intelligent Key with Push Button Ignition system, 6-speaker AM/FM/CD system with auxiliary audio input jack, Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), Traction Control System (TCS), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and dual-zone automatic temperature control. The hybrid is also equipped with electrically powered A/C that continues to supply cooling even when the gasoline engine is stopped. Other auto accessories like the Nissan brake dust shield, , steps and door handles could be added to enhance style and efficiency of the car.
To boost safety, the automaker equipped the car with the Advanced Air Bag System (AABS), front seat-mounted side-impact supplemental air bags for chest protection, roof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental air bags for front and rear outboard occupant head protection and front seat Active Head Restraints.
"The new Altima has been a tremendous success since it was launched in November, helping fuel record Altima sales of nearly 25,000 units in December 2006, marking an increase of nearly 40 percent over the previous year," noted Bosley. "The new Altima Hybrid expands the choices available for our buyers, keeping Altima at the forefront of the segment in terms of value, performance, quality, technology and selection."
Nissan Altima Hybrid’s starting Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price is $24,400. It is on sale now in the eight states that have adopted California emissions regulations - California, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont. The hybrid sedan meets the requirements for the Alternative Motor Vehicle Credit, thus qualifies for a tax credit of $2,350.

Save Your Money At The Pump The Bay Area Way
By Katie Jones
When problems do arise, it serves as a test of character as well as a test of just how innovative people could get. The imagination of the problem-faced individual would be put to work so as to find a solution. And in the world where gas and fuel is a daily need in life, people from the Bay Area have found ways so as to spend less on gas.
One of the popular ways that has been cooked up so as to let people save on fuel is through the 511 Regional Rideshare Program which has first started up in the mentioned place. It is a service given for free online and through the phones. People would have to call in or get information online and then those who are working behind the program would then be matching locations and times up. Such a task is done so as to let people have carpools and vanpools.
At present, the people behind such a program has thought up of another scheme. Their new one is actually offered to people who do commuting every day. If they choose to take part in the scheme, they would have to switch to carpools and in return, they would be given gas cards and Safeway gift cards. This one has started just last March 1st and its manager, Tad Widby, is quite enthusiastic about the program which he describes to be “a great way to beat the perfect storm of traffic congestion, high gas prices and global warming”. Indeed, he has a good and strong point there.
To make matters more interesting, the people behind the new project is not just offering such “prizes”. They are asking people to join in the carpool to get a gas card that would be worth $10. Or these new carpoolers can opt to have the Safeway gift cards. Now both gift cards will be given out for ever five days that they join the carpool. And if you are the lucky carpooler, you would be given the chance to take home a thousand dollars. But to be eligible for this huge award, you would have to join the carpool for at least 40 days.
Such a scheme is a great idea especially if you are saving up to purchase new auto body parts for your vehicle. And you would not only be saving money to get the other items you need, you would also be able to help out keep the environment clean and continuously green.

All-Electric Car From GM May To Hit Showrooms By 2010
By Joe Thompson
General Motors is currently working on the production of the Chevrolet Volt so that the vehicle would be ready by the year 2010. The Volt is an all-electric car which will be the answer of the world’s largest car manufacturer to the growing demand for cleaner cars. Reuters reported that GM is already working on plans to produce a working prototype by the end of this year. Bob Lutz, the product chief and Vice Chairman for GM, said that the car maker has already set a target for production of the Chevrolet Volt in 2010.
The soon to be mass produced electric car will be based on the concept vehicle that General Motors unveiled in January of this year. While the auto maker has already set a target for the production of the vehicle, there are still some problems in the design that they need to work on. Lutz said that they are more corned about whether lithium-ion batteries can be developed while keeping the cost of production down so as to make it affordable for car buyers. Another concern that Lutz pointed out is whether these lithium-ion batteries can power a vehicle safely. The car maker is already taking steps to address the said issues. General Motors will take an unusual step with regards to the development process of the Volt - they will open the development process to the media.
Aside from the aforementioned issue that needs to be addressed, Lutz is still not certain that the company will be able to attain their goal. “We’ve set an integral target production in 2010. Whether we can make that or not, this is still kind of an unpredictable program for us”, Lutz said.
It can be remembered that the concept car was showcased in the Detroit Auto Show last January this year. At the said event, General Motors made known to the public their plans for the all-electric vehicle. During that motor show though, GM did not announce a set production timeline. As a result, critics questioned the effort of GM to produce an electric car. Some went on to say that General Motors is not really going to mass produce the vehicle and is only interested in the amount of attention that the concept vehicle has generated.
In response to these allegations, Lutz said that: “Competitors who writes this of as a PR exercise are going to be brutally surprised.” It is well documented that cleaner cars have had strong acceptance and support from the public, and that is reason enough for an auto maker to produce an all-electric vehicle. If and when the Volt hit showrooms, we can only expect that it will have the same high quality performance of other GM cars.
After all, the Volt will also be using the same high quality GM parts like auto gaskets, under chassis parts, and body panels to name just a few.

Motor Trader Insurance - 4 Reasons How Insurance Brokers Can Help Your Business
By Gabriel J. Adams
Before we start to look at why using an insurance broker could be the perfect way to buy your Motor Trader Insurance let’s start off with a few supposed truths about the insurance industry.
Number 1 – Let’s be honest from the beginning and just say it – most people don’t like insurance. For most people losses rarely occur and therefore they are paying out insurance premiums year on year and yet they don’t actually see any real benefit of it.
Number 2 – Most people (even those who have suffered a loss and have made a claim) see insurance as too expensive with actual insurance companies seen as money grabbing and having no purpose other than to make money.
Number 3 – People see insurance as either boring and sold by men in suits or sold using annoying advertising on the television promising cheap or the cheapest insurance and delivering call centres who seemingly have replaced customer service with queues and staff who don’t really know what they are talking about.
If you’re a Motor Trader who needs to purchase Motor Trade Insurance and any of the 3 points above ring a bell with you then you really need to read on and discover just 4 reasons why using an insurance broker could be just what you need when you next buy your business insurance.
The first reason for using an insurance broker is that they can save you time. Yes you could spend time trawling the internet, thumbing through the yellow pages or ringing around a selection of insurance companies but you could also contact just 1 insurance broker and let them do the work for you. As a motor trader I’m sure you’re time could be put to better use elsewhere anyway.
The second reason why you might want to use an insurance broker when purchasing motor trader insurance is that providing they are independent (that is they have access to more than one policy) they can search to find you the very best cover. Cover that in some cases isn’t available anywhere else.
Another reason for choosing an insurance broker is that they can very often provide you with a level of service that you won’t find elsewhere. Go direct with an insurance company and there’s every chance you’ll be faced with queues, call centres and people without a real understanding of your needs. However choose the right insurance broker who understands the motor trade and you can benefit from advice and guidance aimed at reducing your exposure to risk. And in the event of a loss occurring they will even act on your behalf to make sure your claim is settled quickly and favourably.
The fourth and final reason why using an insurance broker could be just what you need when buying motor trade insurance is that they could save you money and we’d all no doubt like to be paying less for our insurance. A good broker will therefore be able to take advantage of the facilities they have with the leading insurance companies so you benefit from the cover, the service, the time savings and the premium savings all from the same source.
Motor Trade Insurance doesn’t have to complicated or expensive so find the right broker and make sure the price is right for your Business Insurance.

How to Rent a Car and Documents You Should Keep Handy When Renting a Car
By Aaron Brooks
In the US renting a car is common and people often use this convenience to travel from one place to another as well as within a city or town they are visiting. Whether you need a car within the US or abroad there are a few basics you need to keep in mind.
• First determine what you need. Write down details like what kind of car, for how many days, who will driver, how many will travel, do you need a baby seat, and so on.
• Second do a thorough online search for an ideal car rental agency that is reputable, rents out cars where you are going, and offers competitive rates.
When renting a car keep handy:
• A valid driver’s license.
• If you are driving abroad then your passport with valid visas.
• Proof of age.
• Any discount coupons.
• A booking voucher, if you have booked online.
• Car rental insurance if any.
• Copies of your health insurance.
• Proof of residence.
• Social security card.
• Credit card.
• If more than one person will drive the rental car then documents for the second driver too.
Most car rental companies only accept payment by credit card. Always read through the contract carefully and make sure you understand the fine print. If you have any questions contact customer service and find answers to your questions.
Before renting a car ask for an estimate. Determine clearly what the charges cover and if the company will bill for anything over and above the estimate. You must inspect the vehicle before taking possession and when you return the vehicle. Otherwise you may pay for scratches or bends you were not responsible for.
Tips:
• Find out who is responsible for fuel.
• Ensure that the rental company offers 24-hour roadside assistance.
• Ask if the contract includes pick up and drop off or whether you will be charged extra.
• Check whether your car insurance covers a rental car. Otherwise take additional car insurance, its best to avail one from independent insurance companies as they are more likely to offer a better deal than insurance sold by the car rental company.
• Find out if they will charge more for additional drivers.
• Check terms and conditions carefully to see if there are hidden costs.
• Check if the car papers are in order and find out when the car was last serviced.
• Always check whether the signals, lights, and breaks are in good working condition.

Always do comparisons of rates and before agreeing on a price ask if there are any special promotions being run or any offers like discounts to frequent fliers or AAA members. Many car rental agencies have in place a frequent user program with reward points. Since it is a fiercely competitive business you the consumer can benefit from their several marketing ploys employed by the car rental companies.

AutoRama To Be Held on March 9
By Glady Reign
The time for gear heads and customizers to show off their wares is fast approaching once again. For the 55th year, the Michigan Hot Rod Association will be sponsoring the AutoRama. It is also the time for car fans to take a peek on what these mechanical geniuses have been doing behind the closed doors of their garages for the days between these AutoRama events. The AutoRama, known to be the place to show off one’s automotive creation, will once again occupy the Cobo Hall in Detroit, Michigan from the 9th of March until the 11th of the same month.
What is known to be the most prestigious event of this kind will surely be a place where customizers will show off their one-of-a-kind creations. The only car show to give the AutoRama a run for its money is the Oakland Roadster Show which is held in California. But the car show being held in Motor City is regarded to be the best place to showcase one’s creations.
Car fans are invited to the show to witness some of the best customized car in the planet. Not only cars are going to be presented during the show though. Motorcycles and odd vehicles are also part of the show. These vehicles are so unique that they surely defy categorization. These are the fruits of the countless hours of labor put into the construction of such vehicles by aficionados. These machines will be competing for recognition and cash prizes during the event, not to mention huge amount of bragging rights.
Those who love vehicles will surely enjoy the sight of the beautiful machines which will be present at the event. About three quarters of a million feet square will be dedicated to showcasing each and every creation at the show. The AutoRama has been known to be the place where unique and the coolest vehicles hang out. And during the event, aficionados can take advantage of the chance to see such gorgeous machines.
There are four different general types of entries in the said event. The first one is full customs. These are vehicles which have been modified thoroughly that it does not resemble the specific make and mode of the car it is created from. Aside from increasing the aesthetic value of these full customs, their performance are also made better and made to last longer like the improvements made on Volvo 740 parts.
The second category is mild customs. These are vehicles which have undergone modifications but still resembles the original car is some ways.
The third type is rat rods. These are the cars - the bodywork looks neglected and it is sporting rust as its paintjob. But these cars’ underpinnings like the transmission and braking systems are upgraded. Unlike full customs and mild customs that are trailered to the show, these cars are driven to the show. The concept is a response to the pricy custom cars most common on cars shows. These cars are built by hand by people who own them using an assortment of vintage parts. Sometimes, a rat rod will sport different components from different models and from different makes. These parts are fitted together using the ingenuity of its builder.
The fourth class is restored classics. Unlike the rat rods whose bodywork is not given much attention, these cars are fully restored classic cars. This is a favorite among car enthusiasts since it is a symbol of powerful gas-guzzlers produced by car manufacturers in the past.
This year’s AutoRama will be attended by different celebrities. Some of the notable personalities who are scheduled to make an appearance at the show are Barry McGuiar, the Car Crazy host; Nate Robertson, the Tigers pitcher; and Spongebob Squarepants.
Glady Reign is a 32 year old is a consultant for an automotive firm based in Detroit, Mi. she is a native of the motor city and grew up around cars hence her expertise in the automotive field.

Volkswagen Not Interested in Chrysler
By Natalie Anderson
In Germany: Volkswagen, Europe’s largest automaker and maker of renowned auto products like Volkswagen spark plugs was not spared from the Chrysler selling issue which forces Europe’s largest carmaker to release an official statement saying that they are not interested in purchasing the money-losing Chrysler from DaimlerChrysler.
According to Christine Ritz, spokeswoman for Wolfsburg-based Volkswagen AG, that the Europe’s largest automaker is not interested in purchasing the US unit of the world’s fifth largest automaker if it is really up for sale. Volkswagen is not the only automaker that has expressed its non-interest on Chrysler even Renault-Nissan auto alliance and Hyundai Motor Corporation has stated that they are not interested in buying Chrysler.
DaimlerChrysler AG has released an official statement last week saying that they have laid all options for its US division on the table but they will not conduct a traditional bidding procedure. However they will offer detailed financial information about Chrysler only to selective buyers. The automaker together with its investment bank J.P. Morgan Chase & Co., are working together to explore the possibility of a profitable sale.
According to recent news from Financial Times newspaper there are at least four private-equity groups that have expressed their interest in purchasing Chrysler and even had preliminary talks with DaimlerChrysler. The said four companies are as follows: Apollo Management, the Blackstone Group, Cerberus Capital Management, and the Carlyle Group plus some other European private-equity groups.
It should be noted that the Chrysler Group until a year ago has kept DaimlerChrysler profitable amidst the quality issues at the Mercedes Car Group. The only seen problem for the Chrysler Group was its failure to discern its American consumers’ changing tastes for more fuel-efficient models instead of light trucks. This has brought losses to the German-American automaker which resulted to their cutting of almost 13,000 jobs in the US and Canada. The said figure represents about 16 percent of its work force. The German-Automaker has also closed down a plant in Delaware in an effort to save more costs.
Chairman Dieter Zetsche, who brought the Chrysler Group which was then at its brink before taking full control of the entire company at the beginning of 2006, said that all possibilities were open for the Auburn Hills, Michigan based unit. DaimlerChrysler’s fourth quarter earnings plunged by 40% caused by the weak demand for the Chrysler unit where sales fell by 7 percent. Chrysler had an operating loss of 1.12 billion euros or $1.47 billion USD compared to what it has earned in 2005 which is a profit totaling to 1.53 billion euros.

ATV Trailers
By Seth Miller
ATV trailers are useful when an ATV owner has to go off-road and haul his ATV. ATV trailers come in varying sizes and shapes. The measurement of the ATV trailer depends on the number of ATVs that a person wishes or has to tow. Therefore, ATV trailers are available in sizes that can house one, two or three ATVs. ATV trailers comprise of a deck and ramp settled on a set of wheels. The ramp doubles as a safety enclosure while transporting the ATVs.
The two measurements commonly found for single-ATV trailers are: 5 x 8 and 5 x 10. Measurements commonly found for double-ATV trailers are: 5 x 13 and 5 x 14.
ATV trailers can house and transport as many as six ATVs at a time.
The ATV trailers should be strong and sturdy. Some of the precautions an ATV rider should take before opting for a trailer are: the tongue-mounting system should be strong, sturdy and reliable, to ensure that it works without twisting, cracking or bending. One should pay special attention to the design and style of the main structural beams, to which the axles are to be attached. The entire load of the trailer is transferred to these beams, and the entire trailer will bend if the beams are of inferior quality. The cross members should be strong and well-built. Otherwise, they will twist and cause corner flex in the trailer's deck, which ultimately results in cracked welds.
Tilt Clamp trailers are generally easier to use than other ATV-trailers. The tilt-clamp system eliminates the hitch-system and is therefore faster. The tongue is pulled straight to the trailer with a T-bolt, eliminating the vibration.

ATV Trailers the Right Transportation Means for Your ATV
By Marsha Maung
Transporting and moving an ATV around is not quite the same thing as loading and moving a bicycle. For the purpose of transporting your ATVs around, you’ll need a durable, high-quality ATV trailer.
What are ATV trailers?
ATV trailers are, essentially a loading and transporting means of moving your ATV from one place to another. With an ATV trailer, the level of care, convenience and expediency is elevated when you use the right type to transport your ATV. Moving, loading, unloading is cumbersome if not impossible without an ATV trailer.
Why is using an ATV trailer important?
Moving an ATV around (more so if you’re going on a trip with family or friends) can be stressful. By using a proper ATV trailer to move the ATV around, you minimize the level of stress and anxiety whenever you have to make a move. With an ATV trailer, at least you know that the trailer hitch, hitch ball, ball mount and safety chain is designed to keep your ATV safe.
Important things to remember when you’re using an ATV trailer
Anyone who has ever used an ATV trailer before can tell you that not only is the loading and unloading challenging, so is driving. It’s sort of like driving with a long string of tied around your waist and at the other end of the string, there’s ball of iron on wheels! If you sway around or change lanes very often, the ATV trailer at the back of your car will sway along with you. and because there’s a distance between the ATV trailer and your car, every single move you make with the car, you’ll have to take the delayed reaction from the ATV trailer. So, it’s important to remember that if you have an ATV trailer ‘tagging along’ behind your vehicle, don’t hit the brake pedal too hard. And while speeding is not advisable under any circumstance, it’s particularly dangerous if you’re driving with an ATV trailer. The faster you go, the worse the sway will be.
Buy an ATV trailer made for the right ATV
Different ATV trailers are made for different loads and size. Some ATV trailers are made to carry a heavier load than others, while some ATV trailers are made to carry more than one ATV. So, before you buy, consult the shop assistant or if you’re buying the ATV trailer online, send a quick email to the owner of the website.
