Toyota sure does have a lot of surprises up its sleeve. But it would not be quite surprising if it does. After all, we do know that the Toyota Motor Corporation can be considered as one of the biggest and strongest companies in the industry right now. And with great power comes great responsibility and perhaps the company believes that it is their responsibility to produce vehicles that would astound and make the public happy. Sure, they do create remarkable stuff from Toyota Sequoia original parts to fine Toyota accessories to exemplary vehicles but now the company would like to show the motoring public a glimpse of what the future holds.
The company would be showing off soon the Toyota Fine-N vehicle which is actually a hydrogen fuel cell concept car. And according to Toyota, this kind of vehicle would soon be filling the roads and streets of our future. This vehicle would be part of the main displays that Toyota South Africa would be sending off at the Auto Africa 2006 exhibit. The event would be held at Johannesburg’s Expo Center and would be starting from the 26th of October up until the 5th of November.
As per the Toyota Fine-N, you would see that this vehicle has for four doors and it comes with a four wheel drive system for a better driving response. The company also boasts of its design and potential performance for all fuel cell vehicles that would be coming in the future. The wheels of the vehicle have got their very own electric motors and these are powered right from the Toyota fuel cell stack and its lithium ion battery. And its power source could be able to produce some 25 kW and 110 Nm of torque. You would find the fuel cell stack, the lithium ion battery, and the rest of the vehicle’s power control unit all beneath the floor. This is primarily because Toyota believes that by doing such, there would be more floor space for the vehicle’s occupants and passengers. Versatile, the Toyota Fine-N would be a vehicle to look out for.

Trailer Hitches 101 - A Guide To Towing
By Caroline Smith
Attaching a trailer hitch to your car, van or SUV enables you to tow all kinds of loads. However, it’s not as simple as just fitting any old tow bar to your vehicle. Which type of trailer hitch you should use depends on the towing capacity of your vehicle and it would be unsafe to attempt to haul a heavier load. It is important to refer to your vehicle owner’s manual for information before fitting a towing hitch.
Then you must make sure you use the correct class of trailer hitch for the weight you intend to pull. Class 1 hitches can haul up to 2,000lbs, where as at the other end of the scale, Class 5 hitches can have a weight capacity of over 10,000lbs.
As a general guide, ball hitches are one of the most common types of trailer hitch and can easily be fitted to cars, SUVs and trucks. They have a ball that attaches to the socket of the trailer and are able to haul a variety of loads.
Heavy duty trailer hitches are required for heavier loads, such as hauling horse boxes, agricultural or industrial equipment. Gooseneck hitches use a ball mount, but are mounted on a central position on the underside of a truckbed, for increased stability and more even weight distribution. They are not suitable for use on cars.
Fifth wheel hitches are also fastened to the truckbed. This type of trailer hitch is mounted on a steel plate and becomes a permanent feature of the truckbed. Some fifth wheel trailer hitches require sliders for safer and smoother maneuvers. They have varying weight capacities, depending on the vehicle.
If you buy a trailer hitch, providing it is compatible with your vehicle and with a suitable towing capacity, it should be easy to install in around 30 minutes and be of lots of use for many years to come.

The Amazing Corvette Z06
By Alan LeStourgeon
Auto enthusiasts all over the United States are cheering on the latest 2007 version of the Corvette Z06. With tremors of change going through the US auto industry as of late, the Corvette still enjoys brisk sales and a loyal vehicle following for the once mighty GM.
The Z06 version of the Vette actually saw its debut in the 1960's but the modern, and still running, version was born in 2001 to replace the ZR1. The new, modern version of the Z06 now boasts being the most powerful and fastest production Corvette to ever come off the assembly line at Chevrolet.
Starting in 2002 the Z06 produced a whopping 405 hp, propelling itself from a standing start to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. The newest 2007 version of the Z06 with its 427 cubic inch powerplant produces a neck snapping 505 hp that decreases the 0-60 time to 3.5 seconds and increases the top speed to 198 mph.
The C6 or sixth generation of the Vette came to production in 2005 as a shorter, sleeker version of its C5 predecessor. The smaller styling of the latest Vette was partly because of complaints of the vehicle being too wide and to also get the attention of European sports car enthusiasts in an attempt to draw them away from models like the Porsche.
My personal opinion on the styling is that the C6 looks too much like a budget sports car compared to the muscular and definitive styling of the previous C5 version. The appearance of the C6 is that of a beautiful and sleek machine with the trunk chopped off. The body profile doesn't quite make the statement it once did as a true American sports car. However, the performance of the C6 Z06 more than makes up for the lack of styling and it still looks great from the front 3/4 view.
The base price of $70,000 (try getting one for that price) is expensive for most car buyers for sure, but it is a true bargain in its class. With its 0 to 60 times, top speed and overall performance, it is a breath of fresh air in a class of automobiles costing nearly twice its price. Comparatively the Ford GT and the Dodge Viper SRT-10 both have suggested starting retail prices above $140,000, exactly twice that of the Corvette Z06.
One of the most amazing things about this beauty of a sports car is that it is the first 500 plus horse power production vehicle to avoid the ridiculous US Government mandated gas guzzler tax. It does this by being a moderately fuel efficient vehicle and weighing at 18 miles in the city and 28 miles on the highway for the manual transmission model. That's better than my 2005 Toyota 4Runner that takes more than twice as long to get from 0-60.
As you can see, there are many reasons for the car enthusiast to love the new Corvette Z06. Its performance, price, styling (to some) and fuel economy make it a well rounded world class sports car. And I have to mention it again, you just can't beat the price!

Saturn Delivers An Affordable Looker
By Joe Ratzkin
GM conveys to the automotive world the very first hybrid deemed ‘affordable’. It comes in the name Saturn Vue Green Line Hybrid imposed with style and performance.
Vue is a mature platform nonetheless Saturn introduced modifications to give a new version of improved handling and ride. According to Saturn, “The forward-thinking VUE Green Line hybrid SUV helps you go green without going broke. Our hybrid system is designed to give you 20% better fuel mileage than the conventional VUE engine, making less of an impact on the environment – your wallet.”
Saturn auto parts of said hybrid work seamlessly with only two perceptible additions to the gauge cluster — a charge or assist meter and an “Eco” indicator light to notify when the hybrid system is paying off. The hybrid comes with a combined 170 hp from the electric motor and gasoline engine.
Car fanatics are saying that Saturn Vue Green Line Hybrid is a very competent highway companion. “Saturn has delivered one of the best-handling, smoothest-riding and dead-quiet midsize sedans on the market. The Aura is just a marvel of affordable engineering. Too bad the interior lacks the same refinement as the new SUVs and trucks from GM. I don’t think the company has moved fast enough to translate those top-of-the-class cabins to its cars quite yet,” says David Thomas, car aficionado.
Another critic noted, “The ride is quiet at speed, and it even does the weird gasoline-engine shutoff when you come to a stop, like the Toyota Prius does. Buyers will really enjoy how the hybrid system doesn’t make the car feel like any less of a performer. There’s really nothing to detract a regular Vue shopper from opting for the Green Line.”
Saturn Vue Green Line Hybrid hits the balance between firmness, navigation system and bump absorption. It is also impressed with comfy furniture and accessories like slatted headlights. It is a looker imposed with capabilities and performance which can be had without spending a beefy sum.

Top 7 Tips On How To Beat The Speeding Ticket
By Sue Jan
It you have been driving for any length of time, you most
certainly have come across one or more occasions where you were
caught speeding. It is always an unpleasant experience to be
pulled over by a police officer and to be handed a speeding
ticket.
However, there are ways you could be savvier and avoid getting
caught speeding:
* On a road with more than two lanes, drive in the middle lane.
When you drive in the middle lane, nestled in the middle a bunch
of speeding cars, you are less likely to be picked up by the
radar detector and by the police officers. Instead, vehicles in
front of or on the side of this speeding pack will more likely
be caught for speeding. Driving in the middle lane also allows
you to spot police officers easier than driving in the outside
lanes
* Avoid changing lanes frequently as it tends to draw attention
from the police who are on the lookout for vehicles weaving in
and out of the lanes. It is best to stay in one lane and drive
at around the same speed as those cars around you. It will make
you less noticeable to the police and less likely to be picked
up by the radar detectors.
* Drive up behind or beside another motorist who is driving
over the speed limit and then take note of his speed, After
having done so, slow down and pull back a bit so that your
speed is slightly slower than his. So in case the car in front
suddenly brakes to avoid a speed trap, you will have enough
time to slow down before the cops can record your speed, while
the car in front will be more likely to be fined a speeding
ticket.
However, if you still get pulled over despite the above
precautions, you could still possibly wiggle your way out of a
speeding ticket with just a warning from the police officer:
* Having a good attitude helps. Addressing the officer
respectfully, referring to him or her as "Officer" and paying
close attention to what the officer is saying will help.
Furthermore, if this is your first infraction and you did not
go too much over the speed limit, the police officer may be
inclined to just give you a warning.
* Having a bad attitude and cursing at the police officer will
only result in a hefty fine. If the officer sees that you are
not taking the situation seriously, the officer is more likely
to go ahead with the citation in order to teach you a lesson.
* Do not admit to the police officer that you did actually
break the speed limit. Doing so would limit your option in
court and leave you no room to plead not guilty in court. If
you take full responsibility while the officer is writing up
the speeding ticket, the officer will testify to that in court.
You would have lost the case on the spot, and you would have to
pay the full penalty.
If you still get a speeding ticket though, it might then be a
good idea to consult with attorneys who specialize in traffic
violations, or with retired police officers who provide
speeding ticket consultations, as their expertise may help you
take advantage of lesser known loopholes.

What Is The Difference Between Synthetic Oil And Conventional Motor Oil?
By Michael Hanna
Motor oil is designed to serve many different purposes within a cars engine. While the primary function is to simply lubricate all the moving parts and provide protection from wear and corrosion, it also is intended to keep the engine cool and free from small pieces of debris.
Conventional motor oils are made from crude oil which has been is pumped from the ground and then processed in a refinery to create a base oil. Additives are then mixed into the base oil to change the viscosity, protection properties and heat breakdown levels of the oil.
Synthetic oil is also created in a similar manner to a conventional engine oil, using a base oil combined with a series of additives. The difference lies in the fact that synthetic motor oils are created utilizing a specially "synthesized" base oil where the size of the oil molecules are all of an ideal weight and of a consistent size. While a conventional motor oil, despite the refining processes, is made up of different molecule sizes which are mixed together, along with various waxes and impurities, a fully synthetic oil is made to provide a much purer base oil, with less waxes and with a uniform ideal particle size to help increase the oils viscosity level. Added to this ideal base oil is a combination of more technically sophisticated additives than are used with the conventional oils.
The additives which are used in the production of synthetic oils can help to create an extremely stable engine oil which will sustain the correct viscosity levels across a large range of temperatures and which will flow properly at lower temperatures when compared against conventional oils. Additional friction inhibitors which are activated at lower temperatures than those of conventional oils, are generally included in synthetic motor oils, to provide improved protection for the engine from the moment of start-up.
This means that the synthetic oil is designed with improved lubricate properties and enhanced viscosity to provide superior protection from engine wear, reduced heat breakdown volatility for decreased oil consumption, improved fuel mileage, easier engine cold starting and a reduction in engine deposits.
When deciding whether it is best to use synthetic or conventional car engine oils, it is always best to bear in mind the age of the vehicle as problems and oil leaks can occur when switching to a fully synthetic oil with an old engine. This is because there can be a build-up of waxes and sludge left by conventional oils over time, which may mask worn engine seals. The introduction of a synthetic oil may cause the detergents in the synthetic oil to break down and clean-up this protective build-up which is maintaining the seal, this will then result in oil leaking through the engine seals when the oil thins as it gets hot.
Semi-synthetic oils are an alternative to buying a pure synthetic oil. These combine a certain quantity of synthetic base oil with a conventional base oil in order to provide a high quality oil which can be used to gain some of the protection benefits of a fully synthetic for slightly older vehicles. However semi-synthetic engine oils do not typically include all the synthetic oil's advanced additives.
Whilst older vehicles are frequently better using conventional oils due to the engine seals, new cars which experience normal day-to-day use with its short journeys, traffic jams, extreme temperature changes, etc, can benefit from the extra protection of afforded by synthetics, but it is always safest to refer to the manufacturer’s recommendations before making any changes.

Volvo XC90 Treasure Hunt, Successfully Completed
By Khevin Anderson
Who could not forget the much hyped and much advertised pirate treasure hunt by Volvo Cars? In fact, many people have been enticed by the whole idea of battling it out as pirates through various forms of media and finding a buried Volvo XC90 V8 vehicle in the end of the race.
The whole ordeal started out through the Internet and through various games, challenges, and trivia, the would be pirates had to make sure that they could go through each step of the way and solve every challenge that they faced. This competition has been regarded as highly successful because of the huge amount of interested participants who went in and joined in The Hunt. Aside from this, the Volvo Hunt also is the very first of its kind for it is a multi-media hunt.
The whole challenge took two months of solving challenges on the Internet. However, only seven were able to make it to the final list. There were three contenders who hailed from the US while the remaining finalists came from UK, Japan, Spain, and Austria. These finalists did not know where the final challenge and the final leg was going to take place. The only time that they knew about it was when they were already flown to the secret location. The paradise of Bahamas. And it would take the finalists two days to find the treasure. Clues were still around the place as well as challenges. And those who made to the last leg had to go over each obstacle so as to be able to advance to the next one.
It was David Hutz, the finalist from USA who found the buried Volvo XC90 V8 which was unique for it was pirate-themed. The six other finalists did not go home empty handed, though. They also received a prize from Volvo and it was not just some parts for 1986 Volvo XC90. In fact, each one of them took home a Volvo, which was a surprise for them.
One of the finalists, Karl Lloyd who hails from the UK, exclaims, “When I received the call from Volvo saying I had won a trip to a mystery location, I was certainly surprised, but when we arrived in the Bahamas, I was speechless. Then, when I thought I’d dropped out of the running, I was very disappointed – but when we found out that all the runners up would receive a new Volvo XC90, I was absolutely flabbergasted! Thanks to everyone at Volvo for making the whole experience both wonderful and unforgettable.”

Tax Credits For Toyota Hybrids To Be Cut In Half
By Richard Chapo
If you purchase a new hybrid car after January 1, 2006, you can
get a major tax credit for doing so. Alas, the tax credits
applicable for Toyota hybrids are about to be cut in half.
The government uses all types of methodology to modify our
behavior. While many look for nefarious conspiracies and such,
the government usually does it right before our eyes. The most
obvious area of behavior modification is with taxes. In this
case, the government has made an effort to boost energy
conservation by giving us massive financial incentives to
purchase hybrid vehicles. The incentives come in the form of
tax credits.
A tax credit is the golden egg of taxes. Whereas a tax
deduction, such as the mortgage interest deduction, is used to
lower the adjusted gross income you will have to use to figure
out the amount you owe off the tax tables, tax credits get
right to the heart of the matter. You see, tax credits are
deducted dollar for dollar from the amount of tax you owe. If
you figure out your adjusted gross income, go to the tax tables
and then figure out you owe $8,000 for the year, the tax credit
is then subtracted from this amount. Golden egg, indeed.
In the case of hybrids, the government wants to motivate us to
buy them, but only to a certain extent. The government is more
or less trying to make them an acceptable part of our society,
not give them a free ride forever. As a result, the tax credits
applicable to the purchase of hybrids phase out after certain
sales goals are met. Specifically, the tax credits start being
reduced once a manufacture sells 60,000 hybrid vehicles. The
IRS reviews the sales number each quarter to keep a tab on how
the manufacturers are doing.
In the case of Toyota, the IRS has determined that the company
reached the 60,000 mark this last quarter. Specifically, it hit
the mark in May. As a result, the tax credit that can be claimed
for buying a Toyota hybrid will begin to be phased out.
Beginning in October 2006, the tax credit for each model of
Toyota and Lexus [owned by Toyota], will be reduced by a
whopping 50 percent. In April of 2007, the credits will be cut
again, this time to 25 percent of the original credit amount.
In October of 2007, the credit will be terminated completely.
The tax credit amount is determined by vehicle, so you will
have to determine the equivalent cut for the model you are
interested in.
If you have been paying attention to the dates, you may have
noticed something interesting. The reduction for the Toyota
hybrid tax credit does not happen immediately. You can still go
out today, purchase a Toyota hybrid and claim the full tax
credit. Once we roll into October 2006, that will no longer be
the case.

Acura RDX Crossover Available And Ready
By Sarah McBride
The Acura entrant to the blazing crossover segment now already holds a tag price. Just recently, Acura had already sent out the pricing for such a vehicle.
The Acura RDX is the very first crossover vehicle from the brand and it has been created to be an entrant to the compact luxury crossover SUV segment. It first came to the public as a concept car which is the Acura RD-X. Honda is the manufacturer that produces this vehicle and the production version of this vehicle was released to the public during this year’s New York Auto Show. It took the place of the Acura MDX for the entry level SUV. This vehicle would be coming with the best Acura auto parts plus a 2.3 liter K23A1 Turbo I4 engine for power. It would be coming on sale starting next year so similar vehicles like the Infiniti FX35, Lincoln MKX, Nissan Murano, Lexus RX, and BMW X3 better be on the alert when this come roaring down the streets.
Acura claims that this new crossover vehicle is a combination of technology and sophistication. Canada showrooms would soon be boasting of this vehicle soon enough. And those who would be lucky enough to be the first ones to give this one a try would find that it has the best type of hardware available.
According to Jim Miller, the executive vice president of Honda in Canada, “RDX highlights Acura’s passion for developing vehicles with advanced technology that deliver optimum performance, safety, and fuel economy.” After all, this vehicle offers an engine with a variable flow control so as to give the vehicle a broad powerband, a good amount of torque, plus, drivers would not be experiencing any kind of lag.
The Acura RDX crossover SUV will be offered with only one optional package available. This one would be called the Technology Package and just by the name itself, it would be giving the vehicle more advanced features. Of course, these additions would be giving the drivers or even the passengers an even better driving or riding experience.
But to see how this one would fare in the market, we all would just have to wait and see.
