Summer Car Care

By Oh Srichaphan

Summer is right around the corner and with so many people saving money these days, a lot of you are thinking about driving to your summer destination instead of flying. There’re a few things you should consider before you head out on your summer getaway.

If you haven’t had your car in for the routine maintenance in the last few months, it’s a good idea to get it into the mechanics shop a week or so before your trip. Have the mechanic give your vehicle a once-over by checking the A/C system, cooling system, the condition of the tires – inspect the tread depth, look for cuts in the sidewalls of the tires and check the tire pressure, check the belts and hoses for cracking and replace them if necessary, the windshield wipers may need to be replaced as well, do the oil-change or replace the oil filters and make sure all your lights are functioning properly.

After the mechanic inspected your car, you should also pack the following backup items for your road trip. One gallon of 50% coolant to 50% water, 2 spare quarts or oil, one gallon of windshield washer fluid, flashlight with spare batteries, screwdrivers, flares, pliers, jumper cables and first-aid kit.

Spark Plugs Offer 'Xtreme' Benefits

(NewsUSA) - The average motorist often underestimates the power and importance of a spark plug.

Spark plugs must deliver a high voltage spark within milli-seconds in order to ignite the air and fuel mixture inside a vehicle's engine. This process provides the power a vehicle needs to operate.

Old or worn spark plugs can disrupt this process and diminish the amount of power that is generated. According to AAA, old or dirty spark plugs can reduce fuel economy by up to 30 percent.

To keep vehicles running their best, motorists should replace spark plugs according to the intervals outlined in their vehicle's owner manual. This will not only help drivers see a difference in vehicle performance, but also could save them money at the gas pump.

For years, savvy do-it-yourselfers have relied on this quick and easy maintenance procedure to restore lost power and improve vehicle performance. Now, the average motorist can experience these benefits, too, with a new offering from Autolite.

With enhanced technology for improved durability, Autolite XP Xtreme Performance Spark Plugs are among the brand's most technologically advanced spark plugs.

"We want to give motorists more bang for less buck," said Sean Lyon, Autolite senior product manager. "Our new Autolite XP Xtreme Performance Spark Plugs offer better overall ignitability and durability while delivering optimum performance for a better overall value."

They are available in stores with an approximate retail price of $5.99 and are backed with a five-year limited guarantee against defects in materials and workmanship

Let's Talk Seatbelts

By Terry Brown

So what is a seat belt? Well, for some, this is also called as a safety belt. It is a harness that has been specially and specifically designed so as to hold the occupant or the passenger of a car or vehicle in place. This is very important especially if a collision or a crash occurs. They have been created as such so as to help out reduce injuries. This is done by stopping the passenger from hitting the hard interior of the car or also from being thrown out of the vehicle itself.

Did you know that there are mandatory seat belt laws right now? Now, you know. Well, all states actually except New Hampshire. So aside from not keeping your chances of surviving a car crash greater but you also are increasing your chances of getting a ticket while driving.

To actually adjust your seatbelt so that it would be comfortable for you and at the same time would provide you with great protection, try moving the seat back of your car as far back as possible. Remember that the further you actually are from the steering wheel and the dashboard, the less likely that you are going to hit them during a collision. In car crashes, one way of lessening your chances of surviving is getting caught in between your seat and the steering wheel.

Before you put on your seat belt, try untwisting it first. This is to actually control the force of the impact with your belt. On the other hand, if you put on a twisted belt, you have reduced the area that can absorb the force. This should be kept in mind not only when using shoulder belts but lap belts as well.

Fit your lap belt low across your hips and not just on your belly. And make sure that they are tight. Remember that in an anatomy lesson, your hipbones are very large and strong. They can take more strain of a collision compared to your midsection. Your shoulder strap should also fit in snugly. Make sure that it crosses your collarbone.

It's An Emergency - Are You Ready?

By Tracy Dawson

Accidents. Crashes. Collisions. Emergencies.

These could happen any time while you are driving on the road. You may not be the real reason why these happened, however, you still could be one of those parties who simply were at the wrong place at the wrong time.

With this in mind, it is important that you are always prepared for the inevitable. Being prepared lessens the worry and anxiety that such untoward events could bring upon you. Prepare some important odds and ends that you might find useful in case such things happen to you.

You can use a cardboard box or a plastic box to keep everything you would need for your emergency kit. This way, you would not have to try to locate the items in case they have rolled their way into the nooks and crannies of your car’s interior. A box would give you easy access to the items and you could easily find the things you would need.

Then, start by collecting all the items you would need to stock inside your emergency box. If you have no idea whatsoever as per the items you would most probably be needing, you can get some help by purchasing a first aid kid manual or booklet. Also, it would be best to have a first aid kit inside your emergency box. Try to include also an AAA or a roadside emergency card.

Put in everything else you would need for changing a tire. Do no forget to include a jack, a spare tire that has the right amount of air pressure in it, a lug nut wrench, a tire iron, as well as a pipe which you would be using for leverage. You could opt to put this inside your box or you can choose to let them stay in your car’s trunk which is the usual location of these items.

Other things you might want to consider stocking inside your emergency box could include a flashlight with batteries, additional fresh batteries, triangle reflectors, flares, rags, a funnel, all the necessary fluids, screwdrivers, pliers, an adjustable wrench, jumper cables, gloves, duct tape, spare fuses, and a list of contact numbers.

Mercury vehicles are just one of the vehicle makes that is included in Auto Parts Corner’s list of vehicles. To purchase Mercury parts like speed sensors, you can simply visit the site and access its wide and informative collection of such.

Is Your Car Ready For Summer Vacation?

(NewsUSA) - Summer's fast approaching, and for many that means making plans for the traditional family getaway at the beach, mountains or with distant relatives. For most it means packing the kids, luggage, coolers and equipment into the family vehicle and hitting the highways.

Smart families know they should get their vehicles checked out beforehand to help ensure worry-free summer travel. But today's busy schedules leave little time for backyard, do-it-yourself tinkering.

Here is some advice on locating a good repair establishment from the pros at the nonprofit National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, the group that tests and certifies automotive professionals:

* Start shopping for a repair facility before you need one.

* Ask your friends and associates for their recommendations; consult local consumer groups.

* Arrange for alternate transportation in advance so you will not feel forced to choose a shop based solely on location.

* Look for a neat, well-organized facility, with vehicles in the parking lot equal in value to your own and modern equipment in the service bays.

* Look for a courteous staff, with a service consultant willing to answer questions.

* Look for policies regarding estimated repair costs, diagnostic fees, guarantees and acceptable methods of payment.

* Ask if the repair facility specializes or if it usually handles your type of repair work.

* Look for signs of professionalism in the customer service area, such as civic, community or customer service awards.

* Look for evidence of qualified technicians: trade school diplomas, certificates of advanced courses and ASE certification. Also look for the ASE sign.

ASE was founded in1972 as a nonprofit, independent organization dedicated to improving the quality of automotive service and repair through the voluntary testing and certification of auto service professionals.

Approximately 400,000 professionals hold current ASE credentials. They can be found at every type of repair business, such as independent garages, dealerships, franchised outlets and collision shops. Certified technicians wear blue and white ASE insignia or pins, while their employers often display their technicians' ASE credentials in the customer service area and post the ASE sign on the premises.

How To Change A Flat Tire - You Can Do That

By Dennis Watson

My oldest daughter reached driving age not to long ago and one of the requirements for her license was for her to successfully change a flat tire on her own. I gave her a quick visual of where the equipment and tire was and then wrote down instructions for her to follow. I figured that if she could follow these instructions successfully then she was ready to be alone out in the car. By the way she was able to change the flat tire and stuck these instructions in the glove compartment in case of a flat tire later. The steps below are the instructions I wrote up for her.First make sure that you put the car in park in a level as possible area and set the parking brake. Make sure you have pulled off the road far enough to avoid traffic and turn the engine off. And don't forget to turn on the hazard lights (flashers).Get out of the trunk the spare tire, the lug nut wrench and the car jack. I pointed these out to her before hand. Before jacking up the car, loosen the lug nuts, which hold the wheel in place. Turn the wrench counterclockwise to loosen the lug nut. Loosen every other lug nut first, then go back and loosen the others.Carefully jack up the car and reference the owner's manual for the correct and safe place to put the jack. Just Jack the car up a inch or so higher in order to remove the old tire and to be able to have room to put the new, full of air tire back on.Continue by removing all of the lug nuts and set them aside in a place where you won't lose them. The flat tire should be able to slide right off now.Lift and place the new tire onto the wheel studs. Make sure that the valve, where you add air, is facing out.Replace all of the lug nuts and tighten them by hand. Then tighten them with the lug wrench the same way you loosened them. Finally, tighten each lug as tight as you can.Put the hubcap back on or in the truck to be put on later.Once she did this she felt a lot more confident and comfortable about how she would handle a flat tire. I told her that there may be a time that she did not feel safe getting out of the car and that she should put her flashers on and move to the shoulder and call someone, if no one was available to just drive on the bad tire until she reached somewhere safe.Everyone should take the time to get familiar with where the spare tire is, how to get it out of the car, and at least change a tire for practice.

General Vehicle Maintenance

By Rita R Powers

Regular vehicle maintenance or preventative maintenance, if you
will, can go a long way in making sure your vehicle runs at
optimal condition. For example, no one truly enjoys the trips
to a mechanic because our brake pads are worn down to the
rotors or drums and we have to spend more time and dollars to
repair the brake system. What little time it takes to make sure
we do the "regular" things to our vehicle, makes the time well
spent. The pay me now or pay me later cliché, in this case, is
never more true. The following tips will aid you in keeping
your vehicle ready to take you wherever you have to go.

Enough can’t be said about regular oil changes and oil filter
replacement. Personally, I have oil changes every 2,000 miles.
The recommended schedule is every 3, 000 miles. Because of my
prompt attention to regular oil and filter changes, I have a
1978 Buick LeSabre with 195,000 miles on it and in 2006 it
still runs like a dream. It should go without saying but a
lubing of the chassis or "lube job" some call it, should be
performed at the same time you have the oil changed.

The air filter, when dirty, is a common problem when you notice
your car has less power and is using more fuel. A simple check
of the filter will give you an idea of how dirty it is.
Mechanics will almost always agree that this simple step can go
a long way in improving your vehicle’s performance. Air filters
are instrumental in decreasing the amount of dirt, dust and
other damaging contaminants going into the engine. Simply put,
your vehicle runs less efficiently when the filter is clogged
with dirt and grime. Filters should be replaced every 3,000
miles. Also, have the air filter changed when you have an oil
change performed on the vehicle to save time or an extra trip
to the mechanic.

And while we’re talking about filters, the fuel filter is
probably the most overlooked or forgotten item for regular
checkups. Auto experts don’t understand why this happens but it
does. Remember the Buick I just mentioned? I have had the fuel
pumps and fuel filters checked regularly on that vehicle. I can
honestly say I get approximately two more miles to the gallon
when I calculate mpg/number of gallons of fuel used after I
have replaced a fuel filter. Whenever you happen to notice or
think to yourself, "I sure am using more gas lately", check the
fuel filter.

Regular replacement of the brake pads is also very important.
Many expert mechanics will agree that all parts to the brake
system are the most important safety features on an automobile.
You must be able to stop your vehicle quickly and safely. All
brake pads will wear out eventually. If you start hearing
squealing like sounds or the feel of the pedal upon braking is
"mushy", you need to consider that the brake pads are beginning
to become worn out. The responsibility of the brake pads is to
provide friction with the pad to make braking or stopping
possible. Brake pads can be easily diagnosed for wear and tear
with regular examinations.

operating in a dance with the distributor and ignition coils.
Many things can indicate problems and spark plug wire
malfunction. There may be corrosion at the wires or connectors.
Resistance can increase as the wires get older. The material
encasing the wires may be shredding or wearing out.

The first sign of trouble generally comes when you start
noticing a missing or stuttering type action when the vehicle
is operating. There’s a significant tugging like symptom that
feels to you that your vehicle can’t get the energy to move.
Always keep your spark plug wires clean. Always troubleshoot
for wires that look worn out or are not properly applied to the
spark plugs. Replacing your spark plug wires will mean efficient
starting and less ignition type problems that can follow because
of worn spark plug wires.

Wash Me! Well maybe this one isn’t actually vehicle
"maintenance" per se, but doesn’t a clean vehicle make you feel
better? Again, have you ever noticed the vehicle seems to run
smoother when she’s clean? Having the engine steam cleaned on a
regular maintenance plan can also go a long way in extending the
life of your engine. Engine cleaning will keep the corrosion and
grime from building up on your spark plug wires too. It will
help when you are looking over your engine for leaks, unplugged
or loose wiring and keep the corrosion off your vehicle’s
battery.

While these aren’t the only "regular maintenance" tips
available, you can always research your vehicle’s handbook for
other ideas that can help extend its life and keep it running
in optimal condition.

Car Care Centers

By Kent Pinkerton

Next to your house, your car is probably your most expensive property, and it only makes sense to give it the best possible care you can. This means that you need to do more than just the usual check ups and maintenance routines – you also need to regularly take your car to a professional car-care center. How do you choose the best center for your car? Here are some aspects to consider.

Scope and variety of services are important. Choose a car-care center that covers everything your car needs, from transmission maintenance to wheel balancing, to electrical repairs and air-conditioning. You want a one-stop shop for all your car concerns – such a set up can help you save time and money in the long run.

Customer support is also important. You want a car-care center that has a competent team of customer-care representatives available to accommodate your specific requests and address whatever concerns you may have. Some car-care companies even go as far as to provide you with free roadside assistance, towing, or emergency repairs!

Compare the prices of parts and services of different car-care centers and then choose wisely. Remember that the cheapest car-care center is not necessarily the best – they may lack the equipment and personnel to attend to your car when you need something fixed immediately. Some also disguise their services as the cheapest in the market only to surprise you with hidden fees.

Keep in mind, however, that low process does not necessarily mean low quality (because there are some very good but very cheap car-care centers out there). If you’re not sure whether a cheap car-care center’s services are satisfactory, try out one of their minor services first (such air-filter cleaning). If they perform well even in small functions, they are likely to deliver well in bigger projects, too.

Car Audio Mistakes

By Sebastian Schneider

Many people just spend too much and in some cases go into debt. What can make this particular situation worse is that people go into debt for a system they realize they do not even like. First, figure out how much money there is available to spend. Then decide how much of the car audio system needs to be replaced. At this point plan a budget – how much can you afford to spend? Therefore you can locate system components in your price range. Deciding what is most important in the car audio system and plan to spend more on the important items. Going over budget is the first and most common mistake car audio system buyers make.

Another thing to consider is how much of the car is going to need to be modified for your potential choices. For example, some speaker installation will require many modifications to be made to the car. Modifications will need to be made by a professional and therefore you will have to budget into the total cost of the car audio system parts as well as labor. Another car audio systems mistake is that the owner of the car does not think about the future. How long are you going to keep the car for? Will you sell the car with the new audio system or will you remove it before sale? Remember audio systems never increase the value of a car enough to balance what was spent on the audio system in the first place. Also, if you plan on remove the system before you sell the car that could be problematic. Having a radio and an audio system are high priorities when people are searching for a new car to buy.

When and for what do you use the car for? If the car sees a lot of use as well as wear and tear, then buying higher quality components like the car speakers is a great idea. Understandably, if you are spending more time in your car then at home you want to make sure it is as comfortable and entertaining as possible. However, if the car is only used for weekly shopping, low end parts are more appropriate.

Another car audio system mistake people make is choosing a system, which is not appropriate for the type of music they listen too. This is probably the most important factor, which should influence the choice of the right car audio system. If the music that you enjoy is strong, bass beats then a high-end power amplifier is needed. In addition, subwoofers would also be a good choice. However, if your music choice is at the opposite end of the music range then you will need a different audio system setup. For example, if you listen to classical music or trendy pop music, you will need to get a car audio that has a strong speaker system that offer even play of the sound spectrum.

Beginner's Guide to Car Audio Installation - DIY

By Duane Boodasingh

Speaker Positioning

Speaker installation is very critical for performance. Whether you spent $1000 or $10,000 on a set of speakers, if they are not properly installed, they would not sound as they should. Even though it may seem that the best position for most speakers are in the stock housing's that came with the car e.g. on the door panel near your feet, this is just not so. You would see why such positions are still used however along with alternative solutions such as center channels for 5.1 dolby, LCD screen, in-dash DVD players. There are many factors that need to be considered in placing the speakers in the correct position.

Distance

The first thing to consider is distance. If the left speaker is only a couple feet away from your ears, while the right speaker is several feet away from you, then the sound will arrive at different times giving you poor sound. Since the left speaker is closer, it sounds louder. The best solution is to figure out a location where the difference between the distance of the right speaker to your ears and left speaker (also known as path length difference), are minimal. This is where kick panels become the preferred location.

Multiple Speaker Placement

If you have a system with two or more speakers per side, you need to try out different locations to obtain the best possible sound in your car. If you have a 2-way system with a tweeter and sub per side. The subs are mounted in the stock location at the bottom of the door. The tweeters are mounted high up on the front corner of the door panel. From the driver's seat, you can see that there are 4 speakers all aimed towards different orientations and all at a different distance to your ears. This interaction of sound waves at different frequencies arriving at your ears at different times seldom sounds good. The best thing to do is to position the woofer and tweeter on each side as close as possible to each other. This is also why kick panels are used so much these days. Professional installers do use some tricks such as inverting the tweeters' polarity when mounted for example on top of the dash while the woofers are low. Achieving good sound with unconventional mounting schemes is very, very hard and is only achieved after plenty of time has been spent trying different configurations.

Aiming

Our ears can distinguish the direction of sound more easily at higher frequencies. This means that aiming the mids, and most importantly, tweeters towards your ears play a critical role in sound imaging. Midbases are not so critical, but should be also aimed towards the listener's ears if possible. To figure out the best aiming angle involves many hours -even days- of work. To start, try to aim the speakers towards the center of the car. Play around with different angles until you obtain the best sounding position. Subwoofers should be mounted up front for best sound. Since this is not possible in most cars, mounting subs in the back is not such a bad thing, since most people can't distinguish where bass comes from. If you have good midbases going down to 60 Hz or less and subs picking up the signal below 60 Hz, then the bass will seem to come from the front.

Enclosures

Subwoofers need a properly designed enclosure to give top performance. Midbases and mids also do sound much better if they are installed in enclosures. The best sounding and easier to build enclosure type for midbases and mids is sealed.

Mounting Speakers

If you are using speakers that fit into the stock location, make sure there are no spaces or holes. Sometimes building a wood or fiberglass baffle helps reduce holes and gives you much better sound. Always be careful when using power tools around speakers. Holes in speakers usually are not covered by the warranty. For unconventional speaker locations, sometimes metal has to be cut. If you have the resources, plasma cutters and pneumatics tools work great. For most of us that do not have these tools, a pair of metal snips (left and right cut) will do the job.

Take your time to plan your system and dont just buy brand and product for the sake of popularity. Sometimes the simplest system is the most effective.

Auto Refinancing and Car Loan Guide

This comprehensive car refinancing guide will help you find the best auto refinance package for you. Included are the important steps needed to take to understand car loan refinancing and what you should know if they are considering refinancing your car loan. This site was designed to help with decisions regarding finance and how you can work together with a finance company to find the best option for you. After receiving e-mail from disgruntled people who want help to get out of their current situation with a finance company, we decided to feature information regarding these issues. Only recently are people becoming aware that they don't have to put up with finance companies astronomical fees and can save themselves thousands of dollars by refinancing an auto loan.

Why you should consider refinancing your Auto Loan
The thousands of dollars that will be saved should be a great incentive for applying for car loan refinancing. There are many reasons why people may get stuck with an auto loan plan that may require astronomical payments and incredibly high interest rates. One of the reasons is the when they may be tricked into a finance plan by car dealers who offer finance when you buy the car. At the time the person may have been overwhelmed with the prospect of a car that they may not of taken the time required to calculate the costs required to make the repayments. It is only after the contracts are signed and the repayments start going out that the person realizes they cannot make the costly repayments. Another example is when a person with a bad credit report may buy a car with high interest, as this at the time may have been the only option they had. Many people may wish to change the payment plan on their auto loan and wish to make the period of time that the loan is repaid longer or shorter. Auto refinance is great for this. You can make a plan that best fits to your life and still leave you financially stable. There are many refinance car loan companies that can custom make a repayment plan suited to you.

When to Apply for Auto Refinance
When a person signs up with a refinance company the following steps happen. The new refinancing company will pay the loan and existing balance to the existing finance company. The refinance company will send an invoice to the customer which includes a new, lowered interest rate. With a lower interest rate the customer can sufficiently pay off the loan for the time period that has been agreed upon. It should be noted that when a person signs up with a refinance company, the interest that may of occurred with the existing company will not have to be paid. This is because only the past interest can be accounted for. After this the customer does not need to deal with their previous finance company anymore.

How much money can I save?
The following is an example of how much money can be saved with car loan refinancing. A person may buy a car and obtain finance with an interest rate of 8.9%. Repayments have been made since then and the person is good financially. After applying for auto refinance the interest rate drops to 6% and then the loan will be paid off quicker.
The following example includes the pricing estimates of the above situation. The car is brought with a finance package of $10,000, an interest rate of 8.9% and 60 months to be paid. Each monthly payment will be $207.10 and a final interest bill of $2,426.74. The car is refinanced with an interest rate of 6.9%. After this adjustment the monthly payments are $197.54 and the interest bill will be $1,853.05. The savings would be $573.09!

Refinancing your car loan
Explore the internet for a company with the best options for your current situation. Keep an eye on hidden costs and be aware of all terms and conditions. Use a calculator to get the accurate costs of any car loan refinancing plan. When you have chosen an appropriate company, you can now complete the application online. There is no obligation to do this. It is done so you can get the best auto refinance rate. Remember the reason you are doing this is to save money. We advise you to fill in applications to find the best rate. Finally proceed with the best refinance rate. It is not ideal to stay with current finance company. You can always find a better rate from a competing company.

Tips on What to Do After an Auto Accident

(NewsUSA) - Car accidents can happen in the blink of an eye. According to Car-Accidents.net, they occur approximately 6.4 million times each year.

Although being involved in a car accident can be overwhelming, knowing what to do in the moments following a fender-bender can help alleviate some of the stress and confusion of the situation.

The service specialists at Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge offer the following tips on how to handle a car accident:

* Don't leave the vehicle. Following an accident, most drivers will want to exit their vehicles to check for damage or speak with others involved. Ideally, drivers should call the police and remain in their cars until the authorities arrive. Drivers can protect themselves - both physically and legally - by remaining in their vehicles and allowing the police to process the scene.

* Carry a disposable camera. Although the police report should capture the details of the accident, it is always helpful to take photos for your own documentation.

* After police are notified, call a towing service. You should know exactly who is towing your vehicle and where it will be taken. For easy access, keep a small business card in your wallet that contains the numbers of several tow-truck companies and your dealership's service department.

* Call your insurance company. Most people think of this as something to do later, but calling from the scene will help to expedite the processing and administering of your claim. And, you will be able to relay accurate information in real time instead of relying on memory.

* Get an estimate on vehicle damage. Insurance companies may require only one estimate on vehicle damage. However, it behooves the driver to get several estimates, which may vary greatly. Review these reports carefully to understand what you are paying and what the insurance company will cover. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Reputable repair shops will gladly address questions regarding the required repairs.

For more information on accident preparedness, call or visit your local Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge dealership.

How To Change Auto Insurance Companies

Changing Auto Insurance Companies May be Easier Than you Think!

There are many reasons why you may choose to change your auto insurance coverage to another company. Perhaps you’ve found another company that offers you the same amount of coverage for considerably less money. You might have changed jobs and are eligible for a group discount through another insurer, or maybe you’re unhappy with the service that your present company provides. With the growth of the internet and quote comparison sites, investigating your options has never been easier!
Why change to a new Auto insurance carrier?

You need to regularly review your auto insurance coverage to make sure that you are receiving the best insurance value for your money. You will discover that it pays to shop around. In some states, premiums for identical policies vary widely among different auto insurance companies. The reasons for this price variation can be very complicated, but they boil down to a company's claims experience with policyholders in a coverage group (e.g. people of similar age, number of accidents, type of vehicle). For example, if a large number of people in a coverage group files claims during a given year, their rates will likely rise. When this happens, better discounts and lower overall premiums may be available at other insurance companies. When you decide to switch your auto insurance to another company, you’ll find that it's fairly easy to do so.
How to cancel your old Auto Insurance policy

Generally, all you need to do to cancel your auto insurance policy is to inform your insurance company in writing, specifying the date you want the policy canceled. In some states, the new agent must notify the previous agent of the policy change. Some auto insurance companies ask the policyholder send back the actual printed policy. The insurance company will send a cancellation request form that will need to be signed and returned. Examine the form carefully to make sure that all information regarding the policy is correct. If the form is not received within two weeks of sending the letter, call the agent or company immediately to check on the status of the cancellation. Don't just walk away from the old policy without formally canceling it. Each state requires that auto Insurance policies be cancelled with notice, thus the insurance company might assume one wished to continue the coverage, and it might eventually terminate the policy for failure to pay premiums and report the lack of coverage to the state Department of Motor Vehicles. This can hurt your credit rating and ability to get a new policy.
Be sure to get a new Auto Insurance policy first

Always have a new policy in place before canceling the old auto insurance coverage. Otherwise you might have a gap in protection for a day or more! Most states require all drivers to carry a minimum level of auto insurance and most insurance companies require policyholders to present proof of new coverage before they will cancel an active policy. The new company will be able to time the beginning of the new policy to coincide with the cancellation of the prior coverage.
When to Change Auto Insurance policies

At Renewal

Renewal is a convenient time to change auto insurance policies, as you don’t have to wait for a refund from your current carrier. A renewal notice will be sent to you approximately 30 days before a new policy begins, depending on the regulations in your state. Should you decide to switch companies, you’ll need to have a new policy by the time the current policy renews. Though a company might say there is 10-30 days to get your payment in before a policy terminates, you do not have coverage until the carrier receives the payment. If you have an accident during this time period you most likely will have no coverage since the premium wasn’t paid!

Anytime:

All Auto insurance policies contain a provision allowing you to cancel your policy with proper notice at any time. In a few states auto insurance companies “short rate” the policy that means one pays a penalty for canceling before the policy renews. Most insurance companies pro-rate their policies so there is no penalty. The advantage of switching before the renewal date can save you a lot of money. For example if you have a policy that runs from Jan 15th to Aug 15th and you have an accident or ticket that will be over 36 months on March 15th. By switching Auto insurance companies on March 16th, you get a discount for having a clean driving record. Your current carrier won’t apply this discount until the policy renews on August 15th! This can save you Hundreds of dollars immediately!
How long does it take to change Auto insurance?

When you change auto insurance companies, the new agent or insurer can generally change carriers while you wait! Generally they’ll just need a copy of your current declaration page, driver’s license and down payment to get the policy issued.

Cheap Car Insurance - 7 Tips To Reduce Your Car Insurance Costs

By Peter Crump

With the cost of car insurance becoming more and more of an issue for the average American family, there are increasing numbers of people looking for cheap car insurance. But although it is possible to find cheap car insurance, the question remains, is it worth buying?

Everyone knows that car insurance companies are not all equal. Cheap car insurance is wonderful when paying the bill, but make a mistake on the company you select and you could find that the cheap car insurance policy that you found may turn into a nightmare. Cheap car insurance may not turn out to be so attractive when making a claim.

So if you have found a discount car insurance broker don’t just take the cheapest quote that you get. You need to find out a little about the insurance company that is offering the cheap car insurance rates.

And there’s ways to reduce the cost of your car insurance even with the best of companies. Here are some tips for those looking for cheap car insurance to help reduce the cost of car insurance without compromising other things.

7 Cheap Car Insurance Tips

1. Look at your deductible amount. This is the amount that you pay first out of any claim. The cost of your policy is directly related to this amount. Many people, particularly those who have had their insurance policy for a long time, have never considered whether they ought to vary their deductible. If you have a good driving record and are prepared to increase the risk of paying a larger amount in the event of a (hopefully unlikely) claim you can save money by increasing your deductible.

2. Have a look at the type of car you drive. Certain types of cars attract higher car insurance rates. Cars such as sports cars and also certain makes and models that are prime theft candidates cost more to insure. If you are buying a car then find out which makes and models these are before you buy.

3. Drive carefully. Although it sounds a little trite to say it, your car insurance cost is a factor of your risk profile. You won’t get cheap car insurance if you have had 3 speeding fines and 2 accidents in the last year. These things are all taken into account and you should take care with how you drive. It all adds up onto your bill. There are big safe driver discounts available.

4. Considering installing safety and anti theft devices in your car. Again these affect your risk profile. If you have a car that is safer and less at risk of theft it should be cheaper to insure. And if you have a car with certain safety devices now check that your insurance company is aware of these, if not tell them.

5. Look at your policy when it comes to renewal time, don’t just pay. There are some things that you can vary in your policy that will affect the cost. Often there are some things there which duplicate other insurance that you may have that can be eliminated. Be critical, look carefully and ask questions about all these before you renew your policy.

6. Have a look at who your other insurers are. Many insurers offer a discount for multiple policies. If you insure your house with a certain company then ring them up and find out if they do car insurance. Get a quote from them. Find out what discounts they offer.

7. Find a good online discount car insurance broker before renewing. The internet is a fabulous resource. Use it. There are all sorts of discount insurance brokers online where you can get fast quotes from a wide range of companies. Don’t just settle for the same company you always use. Car insurance rates vary all the time. Always get comparable quotes before renewing any policy.

So if you’re in the market for cheap car insurance there’s some ideas for you. Don’t just accept that car insurance is always prohibitively expensive, get out there and do something about it.

Auto insurance, reduce costs but maintain protection

Auto insurance is a legal requirement in every US state and Canadian province. Costs are continuing to rise. How can you reduce some of these expenses and still get the best coverage?

First, get multiple quotes from the Internet and your neighborhood broker. You can shop for different types of quotes from a direct-sell insurance companies and offline and online brokers.

Auto insurance that is cheapest isn’t always the smartest move. Ask yourself, is the company financially secure? Are they reputable and will they pay out if you have to make a claim.

The first piece of the policy is almost always liability insurance. If you only have minimum liability coverage and you injure someone, their attorney can go after your personal assets. Many insurers feel that minimum liability is a gamble. In fact, that is why it is often only a little more money for more protection.

Auto insurance varies on car types. Coverage for a sports car is very different from insuring the family sedan or mini-van.

If you are looking to buy a car, consider buying a car that "looks good" to insurance companies. For instance, insurance companies know what kinds of cars are prone to problems. They also know what kinds of cars are most often stolen. If you haven't purchased your car yet, find out what cars make this "good list" among auto insurers.

Consider how much coverage you really need to buy and the price each of these coverages will pay. Think about collision and comprehensive coverage, which is how much you will be reimbursed for the loss or destruction of your vehicle. Are you carrying $30,000 worth of collision coverage for a $12,000 vehicle?

If your car was totaled, would you be able to afford to replace it? If not, you will want comprehensive and collision coverage.

The decision to buy this coverage is usually based on the value of your car. Guidelines usually suggest that if your car is worth less than $2,000, it won't be worth it to buy comprehensive and collision.

If you own a $50,000 car though, it would most certainly be worth it to pay an extra $200 annually or so to insure that your car will be replaced if you get in a serious accident.

If you’re driving a used car from 10 years ago, dropping collision and/or comprehensive coverage can usually give big savings.

Run through various scenarios such as if I totaled someone else's car, will my insurance cover it? How much will I have to pay out of my own pocket?

Paying a higher deductible can also keep your policy costs down. Remember, the deductible is what you pay out of own pocket when making a claim.

Buying a low mileage car and insuring with a good driving record, will all help bring insurance rates down. Don’t speed, don’t drink and drive and you’ll save.

Single, young males under the age of 25 get the short end of the stick in this deal so if you fall into this category make up for this price increase by purchasing a more sensible vehicle. Consider delaying the purchase of that cherry red Mustang until after you’re 26 and married.

Keep yourself adequately covered. You can get away with having the bare minimums required by each state to keep you in compliance with state laws, but that may not be enough to protect your assets if you have a major incident.

Insurance experts recommend that you review your insurance policy often and thoroughly.

Many insurance companies offer discounts for anti-theft devices and advanced driver-training courses.

What is a Vehicle Identification Number?

By David Bloom

A Vehicle Identification Number, or VIN, is a car's unique alphanumeric ID, much like a human fingerprint. No two cars in the world have the same sequence, and the VIN number can be used to find out everything you need to know about a particular vehicle.

Most automobiles on the road today have a 17-character vehicle identification number, as this was made standard on all cars in 1981. Cars manufactured for other countries may have fewer characters in the VIN.

It is made up of a combination of letters and numbers which signify specific details about the car, including country of manufacture, make (e.g. Ford), model (e.g. Taurus), year, restraint system, engine type and more.

Although some of the characters will be the same for similar vehicles, all VIN numbers contain a numerical sequence that identifies that particular model. In the 17-character sequence, the last 6 characters serve this purpose.

The benefits of the Vehicle Identification Number are numerous. If a car is stolen, authorities can easily identify a recovered vehicle, even if the license plates were switched. The VIN number can be found on the driver's side dashboard as well as the driver's side door post.

It is also quite useful when shopping for a used car. Using the VIN, you can get a full vehicle history report on any car which will contain valuable information such as hidden problems, mileage readings, ownership transfers, emissions tests and more.

The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has a huge database of vehicle identification numbers, and every time an owner reports a problem to his or her insurance company, it is recorded. So any time you are in the market for a used car, make sure you jot down the VIN Number and get a vehicle history report before you buy to make sure the car is clean.

Besides the two locations on the car itself, the vehicle identification number can be found on the insurance card and the title or registration, so if you're curious about what your VIN is you can check in these places as well.

David Bloom has been researching the automotive industry for years, and is a contributing editor for several web sites, including Vehicle Identification Numbers and VIN Reports.

What The Color Of Your Car Means

By Shirley Simmons

Rumors once flew that red cars were more expensive to insure because they were thought to be driven faster. Today however it is known that car insurance companies don’t really care what color your car is. There have been multiple studies done to see if a certain color car was more likely to be driven faster or to be in more collisions. The results are always mixed however, with no steady results being found.

The color of car you prefer can mean something however. Some experts claim those who like red or yellow cars tend to be more adventurous. Those who prefer white or silver tend to be more conservative. Those who like blue or other vibrant colors are often more creative and those who like black and often considered classy drivers. This may or may not pertain to you.

While these are not scientific observations, there may be truth in them in some cases. Something more viable to think about is how the color of your car affects the interior when it is hot outside. Many people with black cars will tell you that they can never get their car to stay cool inside when the temperature outdoors rises. Making it too hot.

VW Hops Back in Time to Re-introduce the Rabbit

(NewsUSA) - Volkswagen aficionados will be hopping to their local dealerships this summer to welcome the Rabbit back to the German automaker's line.

The fifth-generation Golf is going back to its roots with the original Rabbit nameplate in the U.S. and Canada. The Rabbit was the first Volkswagen and the first foreign car produced in the United States. But it wasn't just its American origins that made it a 1970s icon.

The Rabbit bounced into American hearts with promises of great mileage at a time when the lines at most gas stations snaked around entire city blocks. It also offered a wide array of standard features at an attractive price. But in 1984, the Rabbit badge disappeared to be replaced by the Golf.

"The Rabbit was always exclusive to the U.S. and Canadian markets while the rest of the world had the Golf," said Kerri Martin, Volkswagen's director of brand innovation.

But American Volkswagen customers "want a relationship with their cars," according to Martin. "Names like The Thing, Beetle, Fox and Rabbit support this."

But the 2006 model is hardly your father's Rabbit or Golf. Unlike its predecessor, the new Rabbit is being made in Wolfsburg, Germany. Its $14,990 price tag for the two-door model includes an advanced ABS braking system, traction control, active front head restraints, front side airbags, air conditioning and anti-theft alarm system with remote locking.

The Rabbit's newest features include a standard electro-mechanical steering system and an optional advanced Electronic Stabilization Program. The new model also promises more interior room than ever with a large rear hatch opening and increased legroom.

All new Volkswagens come with 24-hour roadside assistance for four years with unlimited mileage.

Before the new Rabbit even reached the marketplace, it had won more than 25 awards in over 16 countries, including the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's Top Safety Pick, the Silver Award.

The Rabbit - or Golf as it is known throughout the rest of the world - is a best-seller with over 25 million vehicles sold over five generations.

Volvo Takes Home 16 Gold Medals During Michelin Challenge

By Khevin Anderson

During the most recently held Michelin Challenge Bibendum 2006 done in Paris, the Volvo Car Corporation took home most of the awards that were given away. In fact, Volvo entered this competition bringing with it its environmental car program flagships as entrants. The Volvo entrants included the new Multi-Fuel prototype car, two cars that held engines which were capable of running on renewable fuels, and a car that held a clean and fuel-efficient diesel engine.

The Volvo entrants took home sixteen gold medals in total. This number is quite the highest number of gold medals that any other entrant took home in the passenger car class. According to automobile experts, this simply proves that Volvo is indeed still leading in being the car manufacturer that has the capacity to produce vehicles that hold a high level of environmental and safety performance.

During the Michelin Challenge Bibendum, all entrants and participants, which included Volvo, had to complete in seven various areas. Acceleration, braking, emissions, slalom, noise, fuel efficiency, as well as carbon dioxide emissions were these areas where Volvo competed in.

Despite the entrants being Volvo prototypes, it did not become a hindrance for the company to take home such quite a high number of gold medals. In fact, Hans Folkesson who is the previous senior vice president of research and development at Volvo, states, “We wanted to display the technology that we already offer and at the same time present our efforts for the future in the areas of the environment and safety. Volvo Car Corporation is working with several different areas of technology for sustainable mobility, something that is reflected in our broad range of environmentally adapted cars. We hope that our work will inspire politicians, government agencies, manufacturers, and distributors to improve the infrastructure for sustainable fuels so that the technology will benefit the environment and society to an increasing extent.”

Toyota and Lexus, Earning 11 Awards from J.D. Power and Associates

By Mark Clarkson

2006 seems to be a good year for the Toyota Motor Corporation. This company is the one responsible for the Toyota brand of vehicles as well as the Lexus brand. Now, it has most recently earned 11 segment awards that the J.D. Power and Associates give annually. These awards are all part of J.D. Power And Associates’ Initial Quality Study.

This study actually measures out problems in 100 vehicles during the first 90 days of ownership. And during this period of study, the Toyota and Lexus brands received 11 segment awards which is a record in itself. This is primarily because no other corporation or brand has had received such a number of segment awards in just one study such as this one. In fact, Lexus has been continually the recipient of the most problem-free vehicle for nine years straight in a row.

Jim Lentz, the Toyota Division group’s vice president and general manager, states, “It is a proud achievement for our vehicles to earn 11 awards overall in the 19 segments. Our product line has expanded significantly over the years, with a number of new models coming to market recently. With that, we’ve continued to place a great importance on the quality and dependability of the product.”

In fact, the Lexus brand took home the awards where it had vehicle entrants. It was six segments in all. As per Toyota, it took home five segment awards. Of course, this was the best number of awards among those with non luxury nameplates attached to them. The Toyota Camry and the Toyota Corolla, which are Toyota’s largest volume vehicles, took the top spot in each of their respective segments. The Camry was the number one midsize car. On the other hand, the Corolla took home the best in the Compact Car segment award.

Keep Your Peace Of Mind With A Vehicle Tracking Device

By Nathan T. Lynch

A vehicle tracing system is a great device for security and productivity. This is used by both individuals and corporations to keep track of their vehicles. You can typically get a discount on auto insurance from having a vehicle tracking system on your car. This is because with a vehicle tracking system, your car is more likely to be recovered than without. This ensures that your damages will be much less expensive to repair if any repair is needed at all. Insurance companies like this fact because they will not have to pay out large sums of money in case of auto theft. Individuals like this because they will be more likely to have their vehicle back. Even with insurance, the amount of money you get for your vehicle if it is stolen usually does not account for all the money you put into it. Having a car stolen can be a very frustrating and expensive experience that is not worth it in the long run.

A vehicle tracking system is also used by corporations. Not only is it a good security measure for anti theft, it is a good way to check on productivity of drivers. For a company that has a fleet of vehicles security is very important. This is true for both the vehicle and the driver of the vehicle. A company can track where a vehicle is at any given time to see if the truck is being used somewhere it is not supposed to be. If it is very much off course, the company can contact the driver to see if there is a problem. It is also good for productivity. Because the company can see where the vehicle is at any given time, they can better keep track of their merchandise and their employees. If a driver is continually going off route, they may be running personal errands instead of doing the job they are supposed to be doing. Also, if a driver is lost, someone at the control center will be able to give them directions on how to get to their destination by seeing where they are and where they need to be going.

Great for any business that has a fleet of vehicles. Vehicle tracking devises provides a peace of mind that every business owner needs. Check out our invaluable articles and resources.

July, Scheduled Launch of New Jaguar XK In Japan

By Michelle Crimson

The Japanese automobile market should all be on the alert for the new Jaguar vehicle that would soon be careening down their path. You see, the Jaguar Japan has recently announced that the country would be meeting the newly restyled Jaguar XK which is a luxury sports car. The given date of this launch is on the 1st of July.

According to the announcement by the Japan branch of Jaguar, this luxury sports car would be mainly targeting the male Japanese customers. They would also be moving towards the market who are in their 30s and who receives around 30 million yen as their annual income.

Indeed, interested consumers would really do need to shell out quite a sum of money since this new Jaguar XK promises loads of features and a ton of power. This vehicle holds a 4.2 liter engine. It also has been crafted and designed with a lightweight aluminum body. Another interesting feature is a new system that assists in absorbing shocks to the human body during collisions.

There will be two types for the new Jaguar XK in Japan. There will be a coupe with two doors that would be having a price tag of at least 11.3 million yen. As per the other type which is a convertible with two doors, interested parties should at least be have some 12.3 million yen to spare to own this one.

The Jaguar XK has actually been called and known in a couple of names and the list includes XK8, XKR, as well as simply XK. It has been in production since 1997 and up until present production continues. It replaced the Jaguar XJS in the Jaguar brand’s line up of vehicles. It is a GT car.

How That "Speed Camera" Is Helping You To Save Money

By Penny Coombs

Automatic Number Plate Reader (ANPR) Technology in the UK often
gets a bad name in the press as irate motorists accuse Police
Forces of installing the cameras to entrap speeding motorists
with the aim of making money out of them. What is less
well-publicized is that these facilities are increasingly being
used to great effect by the Police cracking down on crime
generally – the “proper” crime which speeding motorists often
feel Police officers should tackle.

Over the past two years the Police have been adopting a
strategy of "denying criminals the use of the roads", in
recognition of the (supposedly obvious) fact that criminals
usually travel to and from the scenes of their crimes in
vehicles. You are probably vaguely aware that serious crimes
such as murder often use information from traffic cameras in
the area to trace witnesses and potential suspects, but in fact
these cameras are in constant use in pursuit of many offences.

The latest weapon in the war against the criminal driver is the
information being provided every month on vehicles which have
recently ceased to have insurance.

Using information found on the Motor Insurance Database (MID),
a database of all motor insurance policies in the UK, the Motor
Insurers' Bureau (a motor insurance industry body responsible
for compensating the victims of uninsured drivers) provides a
list of those vehicles that might now be driving around without
insurance.

This extract is available to all UK Police Forces, to be used
in conjunction with ANPR cameras to identify likely offenders.

ANPR cameras are not only found on poles on the verge or above
motorways – you may also have seen them pointing out of special
vans parked quietly at the roadside, capturing details of every
vehicle going past. Often the driver of a vehicle passing such
a camera and triggering a "hit" will find himself being pulled
over by an intercept team of Police shortly afterwards. The
insurance data is only one of the possible reasons for this,
but it is a source which often produces excellent results.

During the pilot of the insurance data extract four
metropolitan Forces conducted a one-day operation using data on
long-term uninsured vehicles. They seized dozens of uninsured
vehicles and uncovered drivers with numerous other offences to
their names. In one case a serious crime was actually prevented
by the stop.

This is no surprise to the Police, who are well aware that
apparently trivial offences are strong indicators of wider
criminality. In the 1990s a Home Office study demonstrated that
drivers falsely using disabled parking spaces were significantly
more likely to be guilty of other offences – and those evading
insurance are clearly no different.

This new data is a huge step forward for the Police, providing,
as it does, an active indication of potentially uninsured
drivers. It is no longer a case of avoiding detection by
driving a vehicle committing no visible offence – the ANPR
camera will catch the evader even if his tax disc seems in
order and all his lights are working.

This is all good news for the vast majority of motorists who
comply with the law, even if they resent the price. Every one
of us is contributing an average £20 of our insurance premium
to compensate the victims of uninsured drivers.

Uninsured drivers have more accidents than the average motorist
but they are not paying any of the costs. Now they can more
easily be found, and under legislation which came into force in
2005 , their vehicle can be seized on the spot. Not only do they
face fixed penalty or fine, plus 6 points on their licence, but
they may face a long walk home.

Since the insurance data was rolled out to all GB Forces in
February 2006 the number of vehicles seized each month has
climbed steadily and is currently over 500. Hertfordshire
Police recently announced that they had seized their 2000th
vehicle. We should all hope that the uninsured drivers get the
message that this is no longer an offence they can get away
with – and we can see that £20 start to come down.

Everyone Should Have A Car Alarm

By: Belina Storrey

In today's world, not everyone can be trusted. Hardly a day goes by when we do not hear terrible stories of all kinds of crimes that are happening to innocent and well meaning people. There are countless ways to help prevent these crimes happening you, more than we can share here, but one of the best and easiest ways that you can prevent theft happening to you is by getting a car alarm. Many cars already come with a car alarm, but there are an equal number of cars that a car alarm must be purchased separately for the car. My point is that any car owner that truly values their car should have a car alarm, no questions asked. There is no reason why you should not do all you can to protect your vehicle if it is truly that valuable to you.

A car alarm is a great thing. It is great because a potential thief cannot possibly know that you have a car alarm until they do something to set it off. This is why the car alarm can be so effective. Especially if you are like me, then sometimes you leave valuable things in your locked car without even thinking about the possibility of danger. I often wonder how tempting my valuable possessions are to people who are looking for something to steal.

The benefit of a car alarm is that it is loud and embarrassing enough that it usually makes most potential criminals flee the scene of a car before they steal something. Because it is quite obvious to anyone close by that a car alarm has gone off, few people have the guts to continue in the process of stealing something valuable from a car or stealing the car itself with a loud car alarm going off for all to hear

So my simple advice is this. Find out if your car comes with a car alarm built in it. If it does, take some time to learn about your car alarm. Learn about when it goes on and about how you can control it. There is nothing worse than having a car alarm for protection that you do not use. If you find that your car does not come with a car alarm, then your next step is simple: get a car alarm. Talk with your car dealer about the possibilities and check out the kind of car alarm that is best for your situation and your budget. The important thing is simply to be protected, so do whatever it takes to protect yourself and your valuables.

By Mark Clarkson

The Madrid Motor Show became the avenue for the Toyota Motor Corporation to unveil its new 2007 Toyota Avensis. And now, the company now thinks that indeed, this event has had a positive outcome. The new Avensis is actually built in Britain so everything that has led to the success of the unveiling of this new car is due to Toyota’s pool of designers and engineers.

The new 2007 Toyota Avensis now boasts of a new and fresh styling not only in its exterior but also in its interior. According to automobile experts and enthusiasts this new one has increased dynamic and premium quality appeal. An improved handling as well as a greater comfort during your ride are also features that this new one holds. These last two upgrades are because of the small and definite detail revisions that the company has done with the Avensis’ steering system and suspension system.

Aside from these, this vehicle now has two new engines which are the D-4D 180 with 175 horsepower and the D-4D 130. These new engines come from the company’s latest batch and generation of D-4D common rail diesel units. These units are actually clean, efficient and have been created to be quite refined to provide optimum performance yet at the same time keep the environment clean and safe. The D-4D 180 is the same engine that gives power to the Avensis T180.

The Toyota Avensis has actually been in production since 1998 and up until present, these cars are continuously still being produced. The end for this vehicle is yet to be seen. It actually replaced the Toyota Carina E in the company’s line up of vehicles. This midsize vehicle has also been built in a couple of body styles that includes a saloon with four doors, an estate with four doors, and a hatchback with five.

Car Rental Tips for Your Next Road Trip

(NewsUSA) - As winter draws to an end and the days begin to lengthen, thoughts turn to the open road, fresh air and sunshine. If you're planning a trip this spring, the last thing you want to worry about is your car rental.

Rent-A-Wreck has some car rental tips to help get the right car and best value for those long weekends and getaways.

1. Research car rental companies before your trip. Call ahead or use the Internet to find out which companies are in the area and their rates and policies. Check online for discounts and last-minute rates.

Reserve your car ahead of time and call the renting location at least a week in advance to confirm the reservation. Always ask for hours of operation and return policies. Many locations offer a key drop or off-hour returns, but don't assume that all do.

2. Consider "neighborhood" (non-airport) car rental companies. These locations usually offer more reasonable rates and will often come to the airport to pick you up. Off-site rental locations have grown in popularity with budget-conscious travelers who take advantage of lower rates resulting from the absence of airport fees that are passed on to the customer.

3. Choose the right mileage plan, and pay attention to fuel efficiency. With gas prices on the upswing again, consider fuel efficiency when making your selection. Many rental agencies train their agents to "sell up" to a larger-sized vehicle, often for $5 to $10 more per day. Also, many infrequent renters will unnecessarily request unlimited mileage, paying the premium rate.

4. Rent a car on weekends and holidays - it's cheaper. With 70 percent of the car rental business geared toward business travelers, the best rates for vacationers are during non-work times.

5. Find a rental company that is knowledgeable about the area. Neighborhood car rental operators can be an excellent source for "inside" information on local dining and attractions or simply good directions.

6. Check out the savings between new and used car rentals. In almost every case, you'll find that a used car rental company, such as Rent-A-Wreck, provides clean, late-model quality used cars often for half the cost of renting a new car.

Car Buying Tips For eBay Motors

By Aurel Radulescu

There are a lot of perks associated with car shopping online with eBay Motors, including the buyer being able to set the price. In addition, automobile insurance is more affordable on used cars and, with an auction, the buyer pays in full and there is no hassle of a monthly payment. If you do plan to shop for your next car on eBay Motors, take a moment to consider the following tips to help get you started on the road to car shopping success.

First and foremost, check with your car insurance company before deciding to purchase a specific car on eBay Motors or anywhere else. If the cost of car insurance is a major deciding factor, then you will want to be clear about the costs before you commit to purchasing. In addition, it may be helpful to know that SUVs carry a higher insurance cost than that of a car. With that being said, the cost of insurance will be less on a used car than if that same model were purchased new.

Request a CarFax report from the seller and, if they do not have one, request the VIN number so that you may obtain a copy directly. This report is something that every potential car owner needs to have. Why? Because it contains the number of previous owners that a particular car has had, information regarding whether or not the car has ever been involved in a flood or other accident and whether or not the title is clear. There is also more information detailing a car’s history included, which is why no automobile should ever be purchased without a CarFax report.

Before deciding that your car of choice is the deal of a lifetime, take a moment to research it’s value according to Kelly Blue Book. This company is one of the most respected in the industry and instantly provides new or used car values directly from their website. After entering specific information relating to a car, individuals will receive an instant value assessment according to the information provided. This tool will help all potential car owners to find out whether or not a deal is too good to be true or just not too good at all.

Take a moment to consider the car’s fuel mileage. With gasoline prices what they are, it is important to think about how many miles you will get from one gallon of gasoline. The more mileage you have per gallon, the less you will end up spending in gasoline. This is definitely something to think about!

When shopping for cars on eBay Motors, take special notice of the mileage. This is a good indication of how much life the car has left in it or whether you are buying a car that has seen it’s best days. A great number of cars on eBay Motors have very low mileage, but others are well over 100,000.

As a final thought to shopping for cars on eBay Motors, take a moment to make sure that the car you ultimately select is one that will best fit your lifestyle. If you have a large family, for instance, a compact car probably isn’t the best choice. You will need additional space to make sure that everyone is comfortable and to make it ideal for long road trips. At the same time, a single person may be more than happy in a smaller car because of the simple fact that they use much less gasoline than an SUV or similar automobile. When shopping for cars, either new or used, it’s all about lifestyle and which one best fits yours.

2007 Saturn AURA: The Wait Is Over!

By Matthew Keegan

When Saturn exited the midsize car market a few years ago they left with a promise: we’ll be back. After several years of lackluster sales, GM’s Saturn division dropped the unpopular L Series in 2004 with no immediate replacement waiting. Thanks in part to the company’s German division, Opel, Saturn has a new car to capture the imagination of sedan enthusiasts everywhere. The AURA, a five passenger Euro style sedan, is now on display at your local Saturn dealership. Please read on to see what the AURA has in store for buyers just like you.

The L Series wasn’t a bad car, it just got lost in a sea of competition dominated by popular Camrys, versatile Accords, and dependable Taurus’s. Bland styling didn’t help matters either as the car never approached General Motors’ expectations, therefore the automaker decided to drop the model from Saturn’s then spartan line up.

Unfortunately for Saturn dealers, a void in an already small line up was left wide open. True, the all-new RELAY crossover was brought in as the L Series made its exit, but it certainly wasn’t a sedan and it wasn’t meant to replace the L Series. Thankfully, GM did not fill the hole in Saturn’s line with yet another “me too” rebadged Chevy or Pontiac. Instead, the automaker promised to develop a fresh model based on a new GM platform and by incorporating Opel styling and technology. Thus, the seeds of the all new AURA were planted and the harvest has now hit a showroom near you.

So, exactly what do you get with the all new AURA? Well, one thing you won’t get is a four cylinder engine. Unlike the Toyota Camry, the AURA is only offering a pair of six cylinder engines. Likely, this won’t be a problem for most buyers as the two AURA engines are different enough to give customers a real choice: the 3.5L V6 comes equipped with a four speed automatic transmission while the optional 3.6L DOHC V6 is mated to a six speed automatic transmission. Some buyers may be disappointed by the lack of a manual transmission, so GM will have to watch this closely to see if additional sales could be realized by introducing a potent six speed manny tranny.

Beyond the powerplant, the AURA comes nicely equipped. Since its chief competitors will be the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry, Saturn could ill afford to produce a car short on anything. Thus, the base AURA will be priced right – MSRP of $20,595 – and include the following standard equipment:

3.5L V6
Four speed automatic transmission
Four wheel disc brakes
ABS with Traction Control
Head curtain and side impact air bags
6 speaker sound system
OnStar
Power Everything
Optional equipment for the standard model includes aluminum wheels, leather interior, sunroof, premium sound system and more. The base model is known as the XE with the up market XR featuring the larger engine and a very long list of standard equipment. Add about $4000 to the price of the base XE to get an XR.

Saturn hopes that the bold styling of the AURA will cause shoppers to take a closer look. Now that the Camry has finally shed its bland image, Saturn can ill afford to go up against the automotive leader with a nondescript model. With a sporty grille, comely lines, and an attractive B pillar, the AURA goes well beyond the L Series and is sure to attract buyers to the Saturn fold.

The AURA also is a departure from Saturn’s Spring Hill, Tennessee roots as it is built in GM’s Kansas City facility alongside the Chevrolet Malibu. Based on GM’s Epsilon platform, the AURA effectively combines GM and Opel technology and styling in an all new model. This is a bold move on GM’s part one that the world’s number one automaker is pinning on reviving a brand that desperately needs this type of stylish model.

2007 Nissan Sentra: Big Surprises Inside!

by: Matthew C. Keegan

Nissan's Sentra is bigger, roomier, and more luxurious than ever before. The 2007 model marks some big changes for the popular model, changes that are sure to delight Nissan fans everywhere.

Once again, Nissan is putting into practice with its all new Sentra model something that has succeeded for them in the past: push the model up market. As it first did with the Maxima and later with the Altima, Nissan has now promoted the Sentra to make room for the pending introduction of the subcompact Versa. With the all new model, Sentra fans will find a better equipped, more polished model then any other car that has ever worn the Sentra nameplate. Intrigued? You should be: the car simply goes where no Sentra has gone before: up market.
Over the years, plenty of automakers have taken a popular selling model and elevated it one notch.

Why? For a few reasons: to capitalize on demand for the model – a more luxurious version typically carries more profits with it then the base model. Instead of losing customers to another model [or worse, another make] when they are ready to trade up, why not move up the model instead? Another reason: the introduction of a newer, but smaller model in the line up. For Nissan, the latter reason holds especially true as the subcompact Versa, a car built to compete against the likes of Scion enters the Nissan line up at about the same time.

The new Sentra is much more roomier than the previous model. In fact, it could be mistaken for a midsize car as it packs in an additional 10 cubic feet of interior space. Other surprises found with the 2007 Sentra include a center console/shifter and dual folding high back rear seats to maximize carrying potential. Importantly, front and side impact air bags are now standard and a whole host of options not previously available with the model can now be had. These options include: smart key accessibility, Bluetooth wireless, a sound system to die for.

Best of all, fuel mileage is exceptionally good. Mating a 2.0L I4 to a six speed manny tranny yields EPA estimated fuel results of 29 city/36 highway. These figures are likely to be at or near the top for any car in its category.

Yes, the Nissan Sentra is a pleasant surprise, one that the Nissan company hopes that you will notice. For people looking for a bargain basement model, the Sentra no longer qualifies. Instead, the tiny Versa takes over and it will deliver two things that Nissan knows you will love: exceptionally high gas mileage and an affordable price starting around $12,000. Look for well equipped Sentras to retail for around $18,000.
